But the game is always looking for new ways to make reference for the players; there is even a planet called Omicron, like in Matt Groening’s animated series, Futurama. In the TV show, this planet has some terrible aliens that just hate monuments.
A Futurama Reference in Helldivers 2
The team behind Helldivers 2 has its own way of paying homage to different pop culture things. The game has a ton of similar things, like the movie Starship Troopers, and it also has some armor that looks like Battlestar Galactica. Arrowhead Game Studios loves to add some little details with some kind of reference to another popular IP or movie. The Automaton is very similar to the Cylons, like the Terminids to the Starship Troopers bugs. A new Futurama reference has been found.
This Futurama reference is about the planet Omicron. In the TV show created by Matt Groening, there is a planet with the same name. Omicron Persei 8 has the peculiarity that it has some very anti-monument technology and a large fleet of warships. Another very funny character of this planet is its leader, who always introduced himself in the same way: Lrrr, ruler of the planet Omicron Persei 8. Lrrr became a regular character on the show, a very proud leader but also very funny in his interactions.
Helldivers 2 Has a New Confirmed Enemy
Futurama is a cult series that has an incredible and very well-written script that always criticizes the current society in the meanest and most real ways possible. In the way that Rick and Morty accomplishes the meta references, Futurama does the same, but in a very less explicit way. With 150 episodes and more than 20 years on the screen, characters like Bender are iconic in pop culture.
Helldivers 2 players had to be careful because there are apparently new flying Terminids; this can change the balance of battle. Soldiers will need new equipment to deal with this evolution of bugs. The CEO of Arrowhead Game Studios, Johan Pilestedt, was in denial about these flying bugs; he even said that it was bug propaganda. But the rumors were real. Terminids can now fly and will be ten times more difficult to complete the missions, but players are always ready for new challenges in the name of democracy.
