The Marvels’ early screening reviews are here, and fans are quite excited to hear all about the sequel to Brie Larson’s Captain Marvel. Director Nia DaCosta previously hinted that the movie will certainly ward off the superhero fatigue that fans experienced during MCU’s Phase 4.
The second installment of Captain Marvel and the continuation of the television miniseries Ms. Marvel will see Larson reprise her role as Carol Danvers with Iman Vellani as Kamala Khan/Ms. Marvel, and Teyonah Parris as Monica Rambeau.
Brie Larson’s The Marvels Gets Praised For ‘Delightful Experience’
As per The Hollywood Handle, the early screening of Brie Larson’s The Marvels proved to be a spectacular show. The outlet reported:
“The Marvels was such a lovely, surprising, decent, and delightful experience. The chemistry of the cast is out of this world. Kamala Khan and her family are definitely one of the movie’s standouts.”
They also criticized some parts that needed improvement, especially the plot and visual effects, though the overall performance of the film was a triumph. The source further added:
“Nia DaCosta delivers a movie full of heart. The emotional beats are also great, especially during the final act. The movie’s plot and villain are sometimes lacking, and certain VFX shots are iffy, but overall this movie is yet another success for the MCU.”
The Marvels helmer Nia DaCosta once revealed to Total Film that the installment would combat the controversial “superhero fatigue” by adding silliness to the plot. She stated:
“I think superhero fatigue absolutely exists. The biggest difference from the other MCU movies to date is that it’s really wacky, and silly. The worlds we go to in this movie are worlds unlike others you’ve seen in the MCU. Bright worlds that you haven’t seen before.”
Indeed, Larson also attested to the humor of the movie in her interview with Entertainment Weekly:
“It doesn’t have to be intense and heavy. There’s a lot of humor. I think this movie’s very funny, and we laughed a lot while making it.”
The Marvels also picks up on the events after Samuel L. Jackson’s Secret Invasion, where the famed actor reprises his role as Nick Fury.
The Marvels Will Be A Team-Up No One Ever Expected
As fans anticipate the worldwide release of The Marvels, executive producer Mary Livanos shared with Total Film the difference between this new team-up as compared with the Avengers movies. She revealed:
“The Avengers movies are these epic conclusions to chapters of storytelling, whereas this is a team-up within the narrative that we didn’t necessarily expect for Marvel. Usually, you wait for characters to show up all together in Avengers movies. We were excited to design a team-up featuring characters that women from all walks of life could relate to.”
Iman Vellani also revealed her thoughts to Entertainment Weekly about being part of an all-female superhero cast:
“We’re really lucky because we have such a plethora of female characters with real flaws and real arcs. Time and time again, it’s proven that not only do these stories have such a robust fan base, but they sell.”
The Marvels arrives in theaters this November 10, 2023, as part of MCU’s Phase 5.
