It appears that Michael C. Hall isn’t done with the Dexter IP, but fans surely are. During the ongoing San Diego Comic-Con, Hall appeared at the Dexter: Original Sin panel and surprised fans with the announcement of a new sequel series. The newly announced Dexter: Resurrection is reportedly a sequel to New Blood, which was released in 2021 as a sequel to the original show.
New Blood didn’t do a great job in terms of saving the dumpster fire finale of the original series, but it did a few things right in terms of course correction. Moreover, the show ended with the death of Hall’s main character, which means Resurrection may go out of its way to bring back Dexter Morgan from the dead.
Michael C. Hall Announces Another Dexter Sequel Besides The Upcoming Prequel Show
Michael C. Hall‘s Dexter has gained some traction recently, according to Nielsen charts (via Variety). Showtime is all set to double down on this newfound love for the series, even though it ended on a bad note for many fans.
When the show ended, serial killer Dexter Morgan faced no real-life consequences for his actions. The final scene depicted him to be leading a new life as a lumberjack. Showtime came up with a sequel set 10 years after the OG show ended, titled Dexter: New Blood. The 2021 miniseries tried to fix the original show’s mistake and ended with the main character’s death.
The show was supposed to have a second season with a focus on his son Harrison Morgan. However, it was canceled in favor of an upcoming prequel show Dexter: Original Sin. Interestingly, Hall is set to return to this project in a voice-only role and plays a young Dexter Morgan’s inner voice.
When he appeared at SDCC, fans believed he was there as part of the Original Sin cast. However, a new sequel series announcement from the actor has surely taken fans by surprise. Paramount Global Head Chris McCarthy shared about the new show Dexter: Resurrection (via Variety):
We are thrilled to have the brilliant Michael C. Hall reprise his iconic role as Dexter Morgan in Showtime’s most successful series ever. […] Dexter: Ressurection will appeal to the tens of millions of longtime fans.
The new sequel series will debut in the summer of 2025. Meanwhile, the prequel series starring Patrick Gibson will hit Showtime in December. The prequel series will also feature Christian Slater as Harry Morgan and Molly Brown as Debra Morgan alongside Sarah Michelle Gellar and Patrick Dempsey.
Fans Were Not At All Happy With Another Dexter Sequel With Michael C. Hall
While Dexter fans were elated to see Michael C. Hall in the Original Sin panel, they may not have a favorable opinion of another Dexter sequel. Fans on X didn’t, as they clearly stated their disapproval. Fans pointed out that the original show took a nose dive after the first few seasons and never recovered from it.
The recent outing from the franchise, New Blood, was not a major success to have another sequel to pile upon it. The series did a few things right though, but Dexter: Resurrection is likely to undo whatever good the previous series did. Some of the fan reactions read:
Please just let this end lol. There’s no chance you’re topping the first few seasons.

That’s even more confusing when he’s set to return as the inner voice of Dexter for Original Sin. And Dexters own twitter pages hasn’t even dropped anything about this sequel yet.

The first series ending was trash, the reboot ending was trash, I swear to GOD if they don’t finally give us a satisfying ending in this reboot reboot 🫣

A prequel and a sequel might be a bit too much Dexter. pic.twitter.com/47ju23MIh1
