Playing the most controversial anti-hero of all time does have its perks after all. The Kiwi star’s Homelander has done every imaginable crime in the span of just three seasons of The Boys. And fans know that he can always add more to the list. There is no line for Homelander. But Starr is not the same. He has always known his limits and knows enough to never cross them.
Banshee was Antony Starr’s first big break in the US
Antony Starr might have achieved worldwide acclaim with his role in The Boys. But that was not his first show. The 48-year-old has his fair share of experience having worked on the small screen, including the crime thriller Banshee.
It was his first leading role in the United States, and the actor made sure that he used it to his full advantage. Playing the role of Lucas Hood, a criminal posing as a sheriff, he left his mark on the audience, paving the way for a successful career in the US.
How the ‘Starr’ rose with Banshee
Banshee marked the beginning of Antony Starr’s days of stardom. Be it the action-packed scenes, or the scenes that cast aside every shred of morality, the series became a fan favorite. The Cobweb star’s fate was no different.
It was when his stature was on the rise that he sat down with Elle’s Tasa Stratis for a word. They spoke about many things. However, the conversation primarily focused on how Starr coped with the physical hardships he had to face during the show.
Antony Starr was not one to shy away from asking for a body double
Antony Starr had to perform his fair share of stunts in Banshee. When asked how he coped with doing most of the stunts himself, he said,
“It’s a really fine line with the stunt work because you’ve got people doing stunts all the time who aren’t trained to do them. All of a sudden there is a much greater risk.” (Elle)
Yet he understands the difference it makes. It’s important to weigh the risk against the reward.
He continued,
“As we go on, I have a much better understanding of what I can and can’t do as well. I’m very happy to put my hand up and tag out with my stunt double. There’s nothing fun about getting injured.”
That right there is a man who knows his limits. Maybe that is the reason why he landed the role of the most unhinged person ever.
