Mark Wahlberg once dated Fast and Furious actress Jordana Brewster in the early 2000s, but their relationship did not last long because of lifestyle and background differences. Even though they kept their romance private and the attention from the media was manageable, some things were just not meant to be.
Brewster played Mia Toretto in the Fast franchise, the sister of Dominic Toretto (Vin Diesel) and the wife of Brian O’Conner (Paul Walker).
Mark Wahlberg Could Not Keep Up With Jordana Brewster’s Aristocratic Lifestyle
In her interview with Movieline via Hollywood, actress Jordana Brewster revealed how she and her ex-boyfriend Mark Wahlberg were able to keep their relationship from the prying eyes of the media. She said that if they wanted privacy, they could just go to the quieter parts of the city:
“We just know where to go, especially in L.A. If you want to get attention, you know where to go. And if you don’t, you go to more subdued places.”
Their romance was short-lived, and they separated in 2001. The Transformers star told Vanity Fair that their contrasting backgrounds had a lot to do with their split. Brewster was a graduate of Yale where her grandfather was a former president, while Wahlberg was from Boston and had a difficult life growing up. The actor remarked:
“There’s nothing wrong with being privileged. She’s got great parents who are involved in every aspect of her life. I definitely think there might be issues I have with that. It reminds me of how hard I’ve had to work to get where I have. I have a hard time hearing about living on Fifth Avenue, and having housekeepers, and going to Yale.”
He said he was willing to learn about Brewster’s world, but he also wanted to keep his own. Instead of having famous friends, he preferred hanging out with his neighborhood guys. He also noted that Brewster’s family could never relate to his experiences. Wahlberg further shared:
“Being thrust from one extreme into another, it’s been hard to trust in this world in which I live and work. Someone who’s grown up in a privileged, sheltered background with a small family and all the attention, compared to someone like me, who’s grown up with nothing—I feel it’s impossible for them to really relate to me.”
Wahlberg said he is not ashamed of where he came from, and he likes to come back to it from time to time. He believes that many kids can gain inspiration from his story because they can identify with him.

Mark Wahlberg and Jordana Brewster are now leading separate lives. The Uncharted actor is married to Rhea Durham whom he shares four children, while The Texas Chainsaw Massacre star is currently with Mason Morfit, a businessman.
Wahlberg and Brewster’s past relationship could be likened to a famous movie trope, but they evidently made the right decision not to pursue it anymore because it might have complicated things further. The actor noted he found difficulty in reconciling because of their polar opposite backgrounds.
