Mark Wahlberg joined the box office blockbuster franchise Transformers in  Michael Bay’s 2014 Transformers: Age of Extinction. Indeed, the fourth installment of the $5.3 billion franchise was received poorly by the critics but it was another Bay’s recipe for success at the box office as it went on to claim $1.104 billion worldwide.

Wahlberg reprised his role of Cade Yeager in Transformers: The Last Knight, the franchise’s fifth installment, and left the franchise soon after. Perhaps, the Pain And Gain actor was bored with his long hair in the movie, in fact, he candidly stated that was the reason for his departure from the franchise. As the movie series is expanding, the question arises, will Wahlberg ever return to play Yeager?

Chances of Mark Wahlberg’s Return To Transformers Was Totally Ruined

There is no solid interest in Mark Wahlberg’s mind to return to the franchise as he left the franchise without completing a potential trilogy. However, the slightest chance of the actor’s return was ruined by the latest addition to the franchise Transformers: Rise Of The Beasts. The 2023 movie was set in 1994 and featured several socio-cultural references to revive cultural nostalgia. Oddly enough, one joke involved Wahlberg himself. The reference mentioned ‘Marky Mark is leaving the Funky Bunch’— explicitly alluded to Wahlberg leaving his musical journey to pursue a career as an actor. The reference has derailed the slightest chance of his return to the franchise as it would be odd to recall the real life of the actor alongside his onscreen character in the same franchise.

Well, that was from the point of view of the movie, Wahlberg also lacks interest in returning to the franchise. Also, the actor has a long and busy schedule as he committed to upcoming films like Arthur the King, Our Man from Jersey, and The Family Plan which makes the case very unlikely in Wahlberg’s favor. As the franchise is planning a huge crossover with another blockbuster franchise G.I. Joe, it would be interesting to have a glimpse of Cade Yeager in it. But the franchise, as reported by many outlets is moving away from Bay-esque explosive bangs, and with the change in narrative and style, his return is close to impossible.

Transformers’ Upcoming Crossover With G.I. Joe

Transformers: Rise of the Beasts hints G.I. Joe crossover

The news of the Transformers and GI Joe crossover has created a massive discussion among fans, understandably, it is exciting. Especially, for the fans of both franchises. Surprisingly, the ending of Transformers: Rise of the Beasts confirmed that the Autobots will cross paths with the G.I. Joe in an upcoming project. Speaking with One Take News, the Transformers: Rise of the Beasts producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura revealed details of the end scene of the movie.

“I don’t look at things like a universe, I look at them as a story and [the Joes] will be a part of the story. I also think the term “crossover” means different things for different people. For me, the Joes, whoever they are, are entering the world of Transformers, not combining the two worlds. The plan is to eventually do [a crossover]. But, for the next movie, it’s the Joes that are coming in for whatever the ending of Rise of the Beasts has led us to believe is possible.”

Certainly, “they will interact,” he continued. “What I will say is just like we do with every other movie, it will be a team of Transformers and humans fighting the fight. The Joes will be a part of that,” he added. The collision of two universes could be a game changer and given the popularity and success of both franchises, the upcoming crossover may reach a stupendous box office number.
