Vaughn recently appeared on BroBible’s Post Credit Podcast to promote his upcoming film Argylle and shared a few insights beyond the Henry Cavill-led film. At one point, the discussion turned to the introduction of X-Men characters Wolverine and Deadpool into the MCU. Vaughn described his knowledge about the film as “unbelievable” while adding that the film was going to provide the much-needed jolt for the MCU.

Vaughn went on to state that Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman would save not only the multiverse but the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe. Fans are elated at the Kick-Ass director’s optimistic comments on the film. Vaughn shared with the Post Credit podcast:

“The few snippets that I know about Deadpool vs. Wolverine — or Wolverine vs. Deadpool, I’m sure that argument between Ryan and Hugh is happening as we speak — are unbelievable. That’s going to be the jolt… the Marvel universe is about to have a jolt of them and it’s going to bring that body back to life… I think Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman are about to save the whole Marvel universe.”

While Vaughn had his share of issues with the X-Men films under 20th Century Fox, he has long been a fan of the X-Men characters. He shared, “I’m a genuine fan of the X-Men, all I want is for the movies to be as good as they should be.” Vaughn is currently set to join James Gunn’s DCU as the director of one of its projects. Marvel fans hope that the director returns to the MCU to deliver some amazing X-Men films.

Why Did Matthew Vaughn Leave The X-Men Films?

Matthew Vaughn initially dropped out of the original trilogy after being hired to direct X-Men: The Last Stand. Vaughn revealed the reason eventually, sharing that the studio tried to trick Halle Berry into committing to the film by providing her with a fake script. The Argylle director wanted nothing to do with a film that treated an Oscar-winning actress in this manner.

Vaughn took up the mantle a second time and delivered one of the best X-Men films with X-Men: First Class. However, he decided to step away from further films for a specific reason. Vaughn revealed to ComingSoon that his intended plan was a prequel trilogy, featuring First Class, a second film focused on a younger Wolverine, and Days of Future Past. However, when the studio saw the script for the lattermost, they wanted to do it immediately before a second planned film. Vaughn told ComingSoon:

“When I finished the Days of Future Past script with it ready to go I looked at it and said, ‘I really think it would be fun to cast Tom Hardy or someone as the young Wolverine and then bring it all together at the end.’ Fox read Days of Future Past and went ‘Oh, this is too good! We’re doing it now!’ Hollywood doesn’t understand pacing. Their executives are driving 100 miles-per-hour looking in the rear-view mirror and not understanding why they crash.”

Matthew Vaughn eventually stepped away for Bryan Singer to take over X-Men: Days of Future Past, despite the film using his story. Deadpool 3 is scheduled to be released on July 26, 2024. Meanwhile, Vaughn’s Argylle is set to hit theaters on February 2, 2024.
