One Punch Man and Mob Psycho 100’s Creator Breaks Silence on the Comparison

According to ONE, the creator of the two smash-hit series One Punch Man and Mob Psycho 100, despite their superficial similarities, the two series and their characters, Saitama and Mob, are truly polar opposites. Creator ONE, in an interview with the English Weekly Shonen Jump via Screen Rant finally answers the age-old question about the underlying similarities between his two greatest animes. In the interview, ONE says:

“In contrast to One-Punch Man, the main guy in Mob Psycho 100 is emotionally weak and delicate. So the side characters act as a support for him. The series are kind of opposite, but they are both extremes, making them easier to create.”

One Punch Man tells the narrative of Saitama, a superhero who underwent rigorous physical training in order to become the world’s strongest person. Unlike One Punch Man, Mob Psycho 100 tells the narrative of Shigeo Kageyama, a psychic who goes by the moniker Mob. He is a middle-schooler with extremely powerful psychic abilities.

Major Difference Between One Punch Man and Mob Psycho 100

Shigeo Kageyama and Saitama are the most powerful characters in their own universes, but they still have their own adventures and developments that are compelling because of their power, not only because of it. Despite being a comedy, One Punch Man focuses on Saitama’s preoccupation with finding an opponent strong enough for him to have to fight legitimately, giving his existence meaning. Mob learns in Mob Psycho 100 that his powers do not make him a special person, but rather just another ability that a person may gain and employ.
