Alden Ehrenreich has had quite the career until now, often shining in smaller but impactful roles. The actor has now carved out a niche for himself, frequently tying himself with prolific blockbusters. Consequently, it goes without saying that he has had enough brushes with Hollywood royalties. And as some might typically think, his experience with some was indeed not pleasant until Robert Downey Jr. walked into his life and changed his perception.
Alden Ehrenreich’s Experience With Hollywood A-Listers Wasn’t Nice
Alden Ehrenreich, the star of Solo: A Star Wars Story, has appeared in numerous high-demand films such as Tetro, Hail, Caesar!, Oppenheimer, Blue Jasmine, and many more. Consequently, he has had the opportunity to work alongside some big Hollywood names, such as George Clooney, Cate Blanchett, and Woody Harrelson to name a few, that many can only dream of.
Although people online have often labeled Hollywood superstars as arrogant and smug, it is not always the case that Ehrenreich has had a bad experience.
Despite the big stars often being respectful to him, they always failed to make a connection and felt out of touch, living so far far away in their own distant worlds with assistants. He revealed to Vanity Fair recently stating,
“I’ve had really good experiences working with big names—very few a–holes—but the drill typically is a ‘Hi, nice to meet you,’ and you do your work together, and you have some nice chitchat, and then they go into their world with their assistants and they travel into that universe that they live in,”
Later in the conversation he also added,
“I’ve come to sometimes expect from big names that they are not prepared, and it’s depressing.”
These continuous, often unprofessional habits of some superstars made him believe all were the same until he did Oppenheimer. The roster was packed with gems of the industry, and yet somehow, it was one of the best experiences Ehrenreich had, all thanks to Robert Downey Jr.
How Robert Downey Jr. Changed His Mind
Since the majority of scenes of the Solo: A Star Wars Story star, was alongside Robert Downey Jr. in the Christopher Nolan movie, Ehrenreich anticipated the same cycle to repeat itself as it did with other Hollywood A-listers. However, this time, he was proven wrong. He immediately formed a connection with the Avengers star. In the same Vanity Fair profile, he revealed,
“So with Robert, I was very much prepared for that to be the case.”
But on the first day they met, Downey took him to dinner, and they also went on a road trip together. And that is how he knew this was different. He further continued saying,
“We developed as much of a friendship as I’ve really ever developed with any actor I’ve ever worked with,”
The part that always felt missing to the actor is what Downey completed. It is no secret that the Iron Man star is indeed an absolute sweetheart, with numerous behind-the-scenes heartwarming stories standing as a testament to his heart of gold. In addition to that, Downey’s commitment to the craft further inspired him. And thus, there will be no doubt if Alden Ehrenreich ever says RDJ was the best co-star he has ever had.
