Additionally, the latest TV series based on the game has attracted more people to the Fallout universe. As a result, now it is not just Fallout game fans but also the influx of newer people who are looking forward to playing a new Fallout game.

Todd Howards talks about Fallout 5

During a recent interaction with IGN, the game’s director Todd Howard was asked about the next Fallout installment. By now it’s no secret that Fallout 5 is in the works. However, the developers on multiple occasions have said that their course of action currently has Elder Scrolls 6 first, followed by Fallout 5 next in line.

Howard was asked if the plan was still the same, or have they reviewed the plan looking at the influx of interest in the Fallout game after the launch of the series.

To this he said,

“I’m going to avoid putting dates on anything. I’ve learned that the hard way. So obviously, our focus as far as new development right now is Elder Scrolls VI, but that doesn’t mean that we’re not making plans for other things. We’re still doing a lot of work, obviously on Fallout 76, and we see the community, so many people going into that game and kind of rediscovering it and just so happy with where that game is at. It really does, and I mean, this has one of the best communities in all of gaming.”

Howard was referring to the massive surge in the number of players who flocked to play Fallout 76 after the show went live on Prime Video. It set the record of 39,455 concurrent users on Steam and later crushed its own record, setting a new high of 45,173 users. “Surprisingly, it’s a very, very nice apocalypse,” Howard added.

Additionally, Howard also mentions that the studio is also working on Starfield simultaneously. He confirms that there are some really good updates that they will soon be announcing for the space odyssey released in September 2023.

Fans speculate Fallout 5 release date

Howard’s latest comments reassured fans on one thing and that is the game is not coming out anytime soon. This has obviously left fans annoyed (once again). A lot of users expressed their disappointment on social media criticizing Bethesda’s extremely long development cycles.

Another user ‘LASportsFanatic’ pointed out how the game is in pre-development not development. “They are still in early dev for TESVI. They aren’t even close to Fallout 5,” they said, reinforcing that the game is not releasing anytime till 2023.

Notably, Bethesda’s most recent title, Starfield was released after spending seven years in development. The next game on cards is Elder Scrolls 6, post which it will look into Fallout 5. Given that the last Elder Scrolls was released in 2011, and the last Fallout game was released almost a decade ago, it is reasonable to not expect a new Fallout game before the end of this decade.
