Back in July 2023, when Bethesda Studios was gearing up to release the space odyssey, Starfield, they revealed some details about their upcoming projects. Bethesda’s Todd Howard revealed what the studio was up to and the timeline they’re internally looking at for the release of the much-anticipated games.

When will Fallout 5 be released?

Todd Howard, back in July 2023 while talking to IGN confirmed that Fallout 5 will be Bethesda Game Studios’ next project after the release of The Elder Scrolls 6. The game director revealed that after Starfield, the team plans to work on The Elder Scrolls 6 and later on Fallout 5.

Howard informed fans that the studio already had an idea for Fallout 5 in place. He said,

Fallout’s really part of our DNA here. We’ve worked with other [developers] from time to time – I can’t say say what’s gonna happen. You know, we have a one-pager on Fallout 5, what we want to do.”

Considering Bethesda’s current pace of production, the project will certainly take some more years before Fallout 5 actually sees the light of the day. During the interview, Howard revealed that the Studio had started work on Starfield in late 2015. Given that it was released in 2023, it took over 7 years from start to finish in the oven.

The last installment in the Fallout series, Fallout 4, was released in 2015. It was then followed by a less cherished multiplayer spin-off, known as Fallout 76. Thus the gap between Fallout 4 and Fallout 5 is certainly going to be a longer one of over 8 years.

Elder Scrolls 6 release date

The last Elder Scrolls game, called Skyrim, arrived in 2011. Howard revealed that its sequel was still in pre-production. This implies that there is at least a year or two before fans finally get their hands on the game.

Howard said,

“Yes, Elder Scrolls 6 is in pre-production and, you know, we’re going to be doing Fallout 5 after that, so our slate’s pretty full going forward for a while. We have some other projects that we look at from time to time as well.”

It was previously reported that The Elder Scrolls 6 was postponed because the team wanted to work on Starfield first.

Meanwhile, the Fallout creator also addressed the concerns of the fans about having to wait too long for their favorite games. He said he was as frustrated as the players who are waiting to play them, saying,

“They do take a while, I wish they came out faster, I really do, we’re trying as hard as we can, but we want them to be as best as they can be for everybody.”

Bethesda announced The Elder Scrolls 6 in 2018, however, post that not a lot about the game has been revealed, bearing the original teaser. Reports suggest it could be an Xbox exclusive. Besides, looking at the development update, the community is anticipating that the studio could possibly fast-track the release date to 2024, or at the very least 2025.
