Different people have different talents. Although Skarsgård’s talent is undoubtedly acting, some might argue that he is good at it because it is in his blood since he is Stellan Skarsgård’s son. However, if there is one thing that remains undisputed about the actor, it is that he specializes in the horror genre.

Skarsgård has most popularly appeared in the horror film series, It. Something he did while auditioning for the role of Pennywise in the movie series is evidence of the fact that he would do well as the DC villain Joker in James Gunn’s DCU.

Bill Skarsgård’s Efforts for Pennywise Prove He is Worthy of Being Cast as Joker in James Gunn’s DCU

Bill Skarsgård’s performance as Pennywise in 2017’s It is considered one of the best ones when it comes to horror movies. The movie was in development for years before it finally came to fruition in 2017, with Andy Muschietti directing it.

Speaking to GQ, Skarsgård reflected on how he put on clown makeup before he had even secured the role of Pennywise and drove through Hollywood, saying:

“For one of the callbacks, they asked me to come in clown makeup, so I had to sort of amateurishly put on basic clown face and then drive through Hollywood.”

Explaining this further, he said that he bought his makeup from a Halloween store, and went to the studio by Hollywood Boulevard with the makeup on his face.

“It’s street parking, so I parked my car, and then I had to walk in clown face to the appointment. Because there’s two ways to go about it: Either you cower in the awkwardness and humiliation of it all, or you really commit to staying in whatever the character is and using this absurdum in your favor.”

The fact that all Skarsgård cared about was the role and was least bothered about what people who saw him must have thought proves that he is worthy of playing Joker in James Gunn’s DCU. Portraying Joker requires commitment and the Atomic Blonde actor has that.

Andy Muschietti on Why Bill Skarsgård Was Right for the Role of Pennywise

The It film series is a two-part adaptation of Stephen King’s 1986 eponymous book. This is the first film adaptation and the second adaptation after Tommy Lee Curry’s 1990 miniseries. Reflecting on why he believed that Bill Skarsgård was the right actor for the portrayal of Pennywise, Andy Muschietti told Variety:

“Bill Skarsgard caught my attention. The character has a childish and sweet demeanor, but there’s something very off about him. Bill has that balance in him. He can be sweet and cute, but he can be pretty disturbing.”

To make sure that the movie’s younger cast’s fear of Pennywise was authentic or as real as it possibly could be, Muschietti asked the young actors to stay away from Skarsgård as much as they could during the filming. The young cast’s first interaction with the Clark actor did not happen until their first interaction with Pennywise.

This further proves that the John Wick: Chapter 4 actor has in him what would make for a great Joker in James Gunn’s DCU. Hopefully, Gunn will consider the actor for the role.

The It series is available for streaming on Amazon Prime.
