Bong Joon-ho’s highly anticipated science fiction thriller, Mickey 17, starring Robert Pattinson has been in the news for quite a time. The Warner Bros. film, originally set to hit theaters on March 29, 2024, was pushed back to a new release date. The film written, directed, and produced by the Oscar-winning Parasite director was previously delayed indefinitely. It’s now set to hit theaters on January 31, 2025, per reports.
Adapted from author Edward Ashton’s 2022 novel Mickey 7, the film was expected to have Joon-ho put his trademark tonal shifts from the source material. Seeing Waner Bros. not much hyping the movie, many fans have a feeling that it might see the path like Coyote vs Acme, which has officially been shelved despite finishing the production in 2022, after earlier reports of it being uncanceled.
Mickey 17 Scheduled for a Delayed Release
Warner Bros. has officially announced a delay in the release of Bong Joon-ho‘s upcoming film, Mickey 17. The movie generated considerable buzz in the industry. Despite that, it was seen as a less enthusiastic effort from Warner Bros. However, a Warner rep said: “There is, of course, enthusiasm for it.” (Via Variety)
Warner Bros. Pictures removed the film from its earlier date of March 2024 release, Mickey 17 has now received a new theatrical calendar. As per reports, Warner Bros. has now confirmed the film to open on Jan. 31, 2025, and also be available in IMAX theaters.
Robert Pattinson stars as a disposable human being in this high-concept thriller, who can be easily replaced by his clones with his memory intact. A first-look teaser unveiled Pattinson’s character in a chamber. According to the novel, the storyline explores the ‘expendable’ played by Pattinson, embarking on a human expedition to colonize Neflheim, the ice realm.
The Batman actor Robert Pattinson himself is so pumped up about the movie and getting to work with Joon-ho. The actor revealed that the movie is completely different from all the projects he has done before. Talking about his role in the film, Pattinson shared that the film is “so much talking”.
Fans Criticized Warner Bros. for Delaying this Project
While fans are very much awaiting this movie, the earlier news of delaying it due to the strike and now official postponement by Waner Bros. displeased them. They took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to express thoughts, saying that this is really disappointing.

Plot details are kept secret, but the star-studded cast, including Naomi Ackie, Steven Yeun, Toni Collette, and Mark Ruffalo, along with Pattinson makes it more exciting to wait for. And not to mention Bong Joon-ho’s vision and way of filmmaking.
