Regardless, one of the fan-favorite characters who viewers have consistently wondered about is Max Mayfield, portrayed by the talented Sadie Sink. Season 4 saw the character enter a coma, which has cast considerable doubt on how her arc will be concluded in the upcoming season of the show.

In an interview, Sink herself talked about her iconic role, and revealed that she is set to play a major part in the upcoming concluding iteration of Stranger Things.

Sink’s portrayal of Max as a character has proven to be utterly personal for the actress. In an interview with Variety, she revealed that she has always relied on her character’s circumstances to fuel her performances. However, of late, her own personal life has intersected with her work on Stranger Things (Variety):

But as I was going, things from my personal life kind of came forward, which fueled it even more.

This has allowed the actress to further elevate her performance as Max, as the actor eventually talked about the Season 5 production. Talking about the camaraderie between the core cast, Sink revealed that the final months of shooting proved to be nostalgic for the entire group, as she hinted at her character’s possible awakening in Season 5:

They love having me run. That’s all I’ll say.

Of course, while not a direct hint, Sink can be expected to play a major role in the upcoming narrative as well. That of course, will invariably involve Max’s awakening from coma, which is set to be a major twist in Season 5.

Stranger Things creators have also been tight-lipped about Max’s fate in Season 5

The dearth of hints with respect to Max’s fate appears to be utterly deliberate. Following the actor’s suit, the creators also remained cryptic about what might happen to the character in the final season.

The Duffer Brothers, Matt and Ross, did confirm that Max will play a role, but did not reveal anything else, with the two claiming the following:

She’s going to play a part in the season,” says Matt, with Ross adding, “We don’t want to reveal how that’s possible.

Further, Matt Duffer talked about Sadie Sink’s performances as Max, claiming that Sink’s confidence has only increased since she started:

I think she’s grown just more confident as an actor and in her choices.

Matt Duffer further claimed that Sink has achieved a dramatic ability to produce ‘absolutely heartbreaking’ performances, which only suggests that the creators will be looking to bring her back from the coma. Regardless, all will be revealed, when Stranger Things Season 5 eventually drops, which is set for sometime in 2025.

Until then, fans can watch the existing seasons on Netflix.
