Netizens expressed their amazement at Mister Terrific’s look from the same leaked images. Played by Edi Gathegi, the character is quite new to the block and will have his cinematic debut at DC Universe.

Fans Loved Mister Terrific’s Comic-Accurate Costume In Superman

James Gunn previously introduced Mister Terrific in an Instagram post in hopes of getting fans excited about his appearance in the upcoming Superman movie.

27 years ago today the modern Mr. Terrific (Michael Holt) appeared for the first time in DC Comics. In a wonderful coincidence, this happened to fall on a day when his co-creator, my friend John Ostrander was visiting the Superman set! His co-creator was Tom Mandrake. Mr. Terrific is being played by Edi Gathegi in our film.

Newly emerged images online showed set photos of David Corenswet and Edi Gathegi together while dressed in their characters. Many noticed the comic-accurate look of Mister Terrific. He wore a black leather Fair Play jacket and a T-shaped black-colored face mask.

While netizens criticized Gunn for Superman’s suit, they praised him for getting it right with Mister Terrific. For those who aren’t familiar with this DC hero, his real name is Michael Holt. He has a genius-level intellect that enabled him to earn 14 PhD degrees. He is also a gold medal-winning Olympic decathlete.

If you’re asking about his unique ability, he can effectively make himself invisible, which allows him to be completely undetectable by technology or any form of electronic scanning or surveillance – thanks to the incredible nano-machines that make up his mask and costume.

Of course, fans did not forget to commend Mister Terrific’s accurate appearance on social media. Check out their thoughts below:

His costume is one of the simplest styles in comic books, and it’s truly satisfying that Gunn and his costume design team decided to follow the source material.

David Corenswet’s Superman Suit Suffered Online Backlash

On the other hand, Corenswet’s costume has been heavily slammed by fans online after witnessing a huge difference from Henry Cavill’s version. After Gunn admitted that the actor did some screen tests with the previous Superman suit, filmmaker Dan Marcus shared:

I heard from a friend who is working on LEGACY that the Superman suit is not gonna be what we’re expecting and is very curious for how fans are gonna react. Take that for what you will.

And fans were indeed shocked to see the new Superman suit. Some netizens noticed how it looked like a Halloween costume while others simply hoped it was not the official one and only a stunt suit.

As the images were only leaked and production is still underway, it’s difficult to form immediate conclusions. Hopefully, this will be addressed by the director soon.

Superman arrives in theaters on July 11, 2025.
