A.C. Bradley exclusively told IGN that the Covid-19 pandemic has had a huge impact on the creative process of What If…? season 2. The writer/showrunner also revealed that the episodes were written between January 2020 and October 2020 while working remotely. However, in hindsight, Bradley revealed that she scrapped an episode as it was “very very dark” despite the pandemic-induced tone of the entire second season being inherently a bit dark

“It felt like the world was already ending and we didn’t need to add to it. And so it became kind of an escape and a fun release. However, I did write an episode, which is forever going in a drawer, that was very, very dark. I was calling it ‘Children of Men with Spider-Man.’“

What If…? Season 2 comprised nine episodes with different storylines and alternate prospects of MCU events. Certainly, season 2 was also hailed by fans as it gives a fresher perspective to look at the MCU.

Fans Are Disappointed With the News of the Scrapped What If…? Episode

Many Marvel fans would agree on the fact that it is fun to imagine Alfonso Cuarón’s sci-fi action thriller Children of Men blending with Spider-Man. The showrunner of What If…? Season 2, however, felt that it was too extreme for the audience and sealed the episode, never to leave the drawer. Inherently, Children of Men is often regarded as one of the most disturbing films in the genre. Now, fans are upset with the news of the scrapped episode.

If the sole reason for scrapping the episode was for the darker tone, fans believe it was a huge blunder as they were ready to welcome every bit of darkness the show would have to offer. Regardless, the show has been hailed well by fans. So, if there is room for another season, the possibility of bringing the scrapped episode on fan demand would be high but as he sealed the episode for good, it is hard to predict at this point.
