The Acolyte is nearing the end of its first season, with several controversial revelations plaguing the show’s tenure. During a recent interview, showrunner Leslye Headland talked about the twins’ origin being similar to Anakin Skywalker’s, which some fans argued made the latter less special. Headland revealed the twins’ fate, settling the debate once and for all. In the process, she also restored George Lucas’ original lore, and here is what she had to say.

Leslye Headland Restores George Lucas’ Chosen One Lore After The Acolyte‘s Controversial Revelation

The Acolyte revolves around twins Osha and Mae, who were revealed to be born through the use of Force manipulation, similar to Anakin Skywalker, several years after the show’s events.

Many fans argued that since Anakin was the prophesized Chosen One, the twins having a similar backstory did not make sense. Moreover, some fans also believed that the revelation made Anakin less special.

According to George Lucas‘ lore, Anakin was supposed to bring balance to the Force. The existence of the twins, who are a vergence in the Force, similar to Anakin, arguably contradicts Lucas’ lore. However, creator Leslye Headland has clarified the situation by revealing the twins’ fate in an interview with Nerdist.

So the twins are weaker than Anakin, for sure. They are going to fall short of what will eventually become the Chosen One.

Headland made the above statement clarifying that the twins weren’t meant to replace or rival Anakin’s prophesized Chosen One status.

Instead, Headland argued that the twins were one of the earlier experiments in using the Force’s abilities to create life. It is widely believed that Anakin was born as a result of Darth Sidious and his master’s manipulation of the Force, and Headland’s comments seemingly restore this piece of lore.

Fans React to Leslye Headland Revealing The Acolyte‘s Ultimate Fate

After Headland’s comments came to the attention of the fans, they took to social media and reacted to the showrunner essentially restoring the lore of the franchise. They shared their thoughts on Headland recognizing that the series had messed up the lore, at least for some of the fans.

Here is how fans reacted to Headland’s comments about the Chosen One lore on X (formerly Twitter).

As the tweets suggest, fans considered Headland’s statement as a damage control move, especially after the backlash the series received for allegedly breaking the lore of the Chosen One and the overall importance of Anakin Skywalker to the galaxy far, far away.

However, at the same time, several fans appreciated that Headland came forward and clarified that the circumstances of the twins’ creation and their existence itself do not nullify Anakin’s Chosen One status. While some fans liked the idea of the twins being a failed attempt, many saw it as a ploy to win the favor of fans who have already turned their back on the series.

The Acolyte is streaming on Disney+.
