Marvel certainly rattled everyone when they abruptly parted ways with Beau DeMayo, the creator and writer behind X-Men ’97, just a week before its highly anticipated release. Fans were left in the dark about the reasons behind this unexpected decision, sparking speculation.
Despite Beau DeMayo’s active engagement with fans on social media, shedding light on various aspects of the show, the true reason behind his exit remains unaddressed. Now, Marvel is on the hunt for a new writer who is capable of striking the right balance between comedy and drama for the upcoming X-Men reboot.
The Real Reason Beau DeMayo Was Let Go from X-Men ’97
Marvel’s decision to remove Beau DeMayo from the Disney+ show caught everyone off guard, especially since he was gearing up for seasons 2 and 3 of X-Men ’97. Adding to the surprise, DeMayo’s departure announcement was made just a day before the premiere of the show.
Shedding some light on the situation, executive producer Brad Winderbaum shared insights in an interview with Entertainment Weekly. He said,
“I can’t talk about the details,–But I can say that Beau had real respect and passion for these characters and wrote what I think are excellent scripts that really the rest of the team were able to draw inspiration from [to] build this amazing show that’s on screen. I don’t [categorize DeMayo’s exit as a firing], We parted ways’ is the best way I could say.”
An insider, Jeff Sneider, recently spilled some alleged reasons for DeMayo’s departure on the Hot Mic, but it’s wise to approach this information with caution. Sneider hinted that two factors may have played a role, number one being “difficult to work with and gettin’ on everyone’s last nerve”, though he didn’t dive deeper into this aspect and another one being the existence of DeMayo’s OnlyFans account. However, neither of the parties involved has confirmed any one of the pieces of information.
Marvel on the Hunt for a New Writer for the X-Men Reboot

Interestingly, they’re seeking someone who could introduce fresh X-Men characters never before seen in live-action as well as have a beautiful blend of both comedy and drama.
Additionally, Marvel aims to put a spotlight on female mutants in the new X-Men film, according to Ritchtman reports.

@BeauDemayo please
I know he got fired but legit he is the best choice. X men 97 is one of the best written things ever. He should be Marvel's top choice. Him writing the live action is the best choice— GB10FN (@GB10FN) April 29, 2024
