The Marvel fandom has gone wild as Kevin Feige, the President of Marvel Studios, recently said something that could change the Marvel Cinematic Universe completely. Rumors suggest that Feige could be planning a soft reboot of the franchise, removing some characters and adding fan-favorite characters.
Something similar is going on in the DC Universe as well. James Gunn, the co-CEO of DC Studios, is currently working on his new DC Universe which will be a soft reboot of the franchise. With Zack Snyder’s exit, Gunn had to take this step in order to create hype for DC movies.
Is Kevin Feige planning a soft reboot for the Marvel Cinematic Universe?
Recently a book called MCU: The Reign of Marvel Studios was published that highlighted everything that happened, and is going on in the Marvel franchise. The author of the book, Joanna Robinson, recently appeared on The Watch podcast and talked about this specific Kevin Feige‘s quote that hints at a soft reboot,
“We have a quote from Kevin Feige sort of implying that, like, Secret Wars will serve as a soft reboot in which they can prune everything… That’s not to use a Loki-ism. [They’ll] prune everything that’s not working and just keep what is [working], or bring back people you thought were gone forever.”
Obviously, this step will be a massive change in the franchise and will allow the filmmakers to create what fans love, removing the unpopular elements in the process.
This paragraph in MCU: The Reign of Marvel Studios further fueled the rumors
There is a specific paragraph in the final chapter, How Much We Have Left, of the book MCU: The Reign of Marvel Studios that hints Feige might take this step,
“As the MCU spilled over into streaming programs and the Multiverse Saga, Feige had to learn different lessons from the comics: how superheroes periodically needed to be rebooted, how to stop variants and spinoffs from spiraling out of control, how an annual mega-crossover event could unify a disparate line of characters.”
Even the DC Universe is going through a soft reboot, considering the back-to-back flops created by the franchise, they definitely need to make some major changes. All eyes are on James Gunn’s Superman: Legacy (2025) as it will introduce the fans to a new DC Universe.
