When James Gunn was hired as co-CEO of DC Studios in November 2022, he went on to quickly set to work on revamping DC’s live-action superhero franchise. In January 2023, Gunn announced a new DC Universe, confirming the development of ten new projects across film, TV, and animation, starting with Superman: Legacy, which is scheduled for release in July 2025.
And, it seems like the President of Marvel Studio Kevin Feige is also following in the footsteps of Gunn. Talks are underway that Marvel’s Avengers: Secret Wars might act as a soft reboot for the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). And, this makes fans quite upset.
Avengers: Secret Wars Could Potentially Be a Soft Reboot for the Entire MCU
It is strongly rumored that President Kevin Feige is looking at a soft reboot of MCU with Avengers: Secret Wars.
Author of the Marvel book MCU: The Reign of Marvel Studios Joanna Robinson spoke on The Watch podcast:
“We have a quote from Kevin Feige sort of implying that, like, Secret Wars will serve as a soft reboot in which they can prune everything… That’s not to use a Loki-ism. [They’ll] prune everything that’s not working and just keep what is [working], or bring back people you thought were gone forever.”
According to trusted scooper CanWeGetSomeToast on X, Kevin Feige has decided to make Secret Wars “the send-off to not only the current MCU, but all the Marvel movies that came before Iron Man. It’s the Ultimate (soft) reboot.” The scooper also states that this is to “make way for something All New, and All Different.”
Avengers: Secret Wars is a sequel to previous Avengers movies, including The Avengers, Age of Ultron, Infinity War, Endgame, and The Kang Dynasty. The film is the forty-sixth installment in the MCU, serving as the final chapter of Phase Six and The Multiverse Saga.

Though there is no official announcement as of now, the company started teasing its audiences.
Avengers: Secret Wars is scheduled to be released in theaters on May 7, 2027.
