In an interview with Empire, he reflected on why the prospect of hosting the award ceremony is less appealing to him. Seinfeld said that the environment at such ceremonies is usually very tense, as everyone is nervous and focused on winning awards rather than having fun.

“I don’t know, it’s just a weird environment. I’m lucky that I can do things that kind of interest me as a challenge, but everybody there is nervous, you know? They want to win their award. They’re not there to have fun.”

The 69-year-old actor, however, argued that he prefers performing in front of audiences that are more interested in enjoying themselves. However, that’s not the only reason why the comedian has been avoiding taking on the hosting duties.

The Unfrosted star shared that he is also denied the offer as if he were to excel as a host, the Academy might continuously request his return. “If I hosted the Oscars and I did it really well, they would just ask me to do it again. And then again. And again,” he told Empire, as per Female First.

Jerry Seinfeld Believes Hosting Oscars is a ‘Trap Game’

In a conversation with The Hollywood Reporter, Jerry Seinfeld shared his perspective on hosting the prestigious award ceremony. The actor-comedian compared hosting the Academy Awards to a trap game in sports. “Oscars is a trap game,” he said.

The Bee Movie star further explained, “It’s a game you’re supposed to win… the other team is so much worse and you end up losing.” He even went on to criticize the award ceremony, stating that despite the glamour associated with it, he sees no allure in the event.

“Let’s stop pretending these people are special. Let’s stop pretending that this is an amazing thing that they can act. Is it that amazing — and then people dress up like senators from Krypton, you know, it’s just idiotic.”

Considering his perspective regarding the award ceremony, he suggested that his presence at the ceremony might be unwelcome, stating, “You don’t want me there. I am gonna tell you this is stupid.” Although the actor is no stranger to awards, as evidenced by the numerous Emmy wins garnered by his hit TV series Seinfeld, his views on such ceremonies remain unchanged.
