Sometimes developers go above and beyond to increase the gameplay experience of people playing their latest game. Rockstar Games included a trophy in GTA 4 that players received for defeating a Rockstar Game developer in online mode. It looks like Arrowhead Game Studios, the developer of Helldivers 2, has decided to do something similar.

They have decided to ensure their fans get the most out of their co-op third-person shooter. Players get to interact with a person in this game who is none other than one of the game’s developers.

For those who play Dungeons and Dragons, a dungeon master would not be something unheard of. In that tabletop RPG, a dungeon master is there to dictate the story, plan every event, and keep things interesting for the players.

They make sure that some curveballs keep coming up in a player’s alley. This keeps the players on their toes, pushes them to take risks, and makes sure that players get their time’s worth while playing the game. The better a dungeon master is, the better the session ends up being.

Video games are usually predesigned. Developers decide on a course of action, and then they just design a game and their levels around it. Once that is done, they either release expansions or the game is over. This is nothing bad; this linearity gives a game a kind of stability.

But what of those live service games that players keep on playing day in and day out? What about games like Helldivers 2? The story in these games is there, but it is never a point of attraction for gamers. In fact, they are there to have fun with their friends. Shoot enemies, kill them, earn rewards, and move on to the next mission.

But the developer of Helldivers 2, Arrowhead Game Studios, has decided to try their hands on something different. They have come up with a way that will no doubt keep things interesting for their players.

They have employed a single person to just interfere with the game world as he wants. They call him the game master, and he is tasked with changing the game as he wishes to keep things exciting for the players. He would actively control the galactic war that’s going on in Helldivers 2.

What’s even more interesting is that he sometimes takes charge of the gameplay director and just provides the enemies with reinforcements. Just so they can attack players from all flanks and make the game a bit more challenging.

The CEO of Arrowhead Game Studios told PC Gamer that this “game master has a lot of control over the play experience.” He even said that through this method, they can ensure that the game keeps evolving and players keep getting a dynamic experience.

As said before, it’s no doubt an interesting way of keeping things interesting for fans. And it’s commendable that a game studio goes to these lengths just to give their fans a very different gameplay experience.

It looks like Helldivers 2 is doing exactly what they said

It appears that the CEO of Arrowhead Game Studios has done exactly what he said a while ago. He reportedly suggested that the developer is focusing more on gameplay than adding cool new technology to their game. And this effort shows exactly what he meant. And fans are indeed responding in kind to this effort. They took to Twitter/X to show their appreciation.

Let’s hope they are also working on the fix for those cheaters as frequently as they are coming up with ways to keep things exciting for fans. No matter how good a game is, a cheater can always ruin it.
