This historic victory led to Wrexham AFC being promoted to League 1, which they play in next season. Reynolds took to Instagram to celebrate the incredible win. The actor was filled with emotions as he thanked his team and McElhenney for their continued efforts and dedication that led them to this place. He wrote,

A few years ago, if you told me I would be crying tears of joy over a football match taking place in North Wales, you would be Rob McElhenney. Congrats to Wrexham and to my co-chairman in crime. Double up the town! This is the ride of our lives.”

The actor even compared the win to Kevin Costner‘s 1989 film Field of Dreams, writing on his Instagram story, “This is Field of Dreams stuff”. Shawn Levy was recently present at CinemaCon where he unveiled nine minutes of Deadpool & Wolverine. The director was then interviewed by Collider about various aspects of the film, including the intention behind bringing together Ryan Reynolds‘ Deadpool and Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine in the film.

Levy stated that while the film is indeed the third time that the character is returning on-screen, it is not essentially Deadpool 3 regarding its narrative. The director claimed that as the title says, the film is a two-hander between Deadpool and Wolverine and that makes it unique from the previous two films that cake before. He said,

“We have had some early screenings that were extremely, extremely promising. I wouldn’t say that there were any big surprises, but you feel where the pace wants to tighten, you feel where you can afford to slow down and have a deeper, more durable character moment. And at the end of the day, as I think we’ve said, it’s very much a Deadpool movie, but this is not Deadpool 3. This is Deadpool & Wolverine, and it is singular because of that.”

The footage of the film which was shown at CinemaCon drew the biggest laughs and cheers from audiences at the event (via The Hollywood Reporter). Along with Reynolds and Jackman, the film will also star Emma Corrin, Morena Baccarin, Rob Delaney, Leslie Uggams, Karan Soni, and Matthew Macfadyen.

Deadpool & Wolverine will hit theatres on July 26, 2024.
