Christopher Nolan Brings Back Oppenheimer On IMAX

Cillian Murphy’s Oppenheimer hit the big screens last July, and along with the profit from regular cinemas, it has also grossed an estimated $183 million on IMAX. The movie’s return to 70mm format in particular is absolutely great news for film buffs and avid fans of Christopher Nolan.

The filmmaker is a huge fan of IMAX screenings. He previously issued a statement via IMAX how the quality of IMAX movies remains unparalleled:

IMAX film brings images to life. From resolution and color to sharpness and overall quality, there is nothing compared to using IMAX film cameras. The IMAX film format is the Gold Standard of motion picture photography.”

Fans would remember Canadian filmmaker James Cameron notably rereleased his blockbuster hits Titanic and Avatar numerous times in theaters to retain their positions at the top of the game.

Released in 1997, Titanic starred Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet. Although it has been reworked to add a 3D version, it also received a 4K HDR high frame rate treatment for its 25th anniversary. Cameron also remastered his 2009 masterpiece, Avatar, and rereleased it in 4K high-dynamic range in theaters last 2022.

His reason for redistributing the movie on the big screen is because of the new generations of fans who have never watched the film the way it was intended to be seen. Cameron is all about the visual spectacle, and for him, only theaters can offer that kind of thrilling experience.

Fans are not really impressed with Christopher Nolan’s decision to rerelease the movie just months after its premiere. For them, it looked like he wanted to hit the billion-dollar mark, which Oppenheimer failed to reach during its original theatrical run. Check out their reactions below:

Oppenheimer has a whopping 93% score on Rotten Tomatoes and a rating of 8.5/10 on IMDB, making it one of the most critically acclaimed movies of the year. Given the small margin, there is definitely a possibility that Nolan’s epic will cross the $1 billion mark.
