Ellen DeGeneres, a popular name in the television industry, known for her comedic brilliance, has recently announced that she ia leaving the spotlight forever after her upcoming Netflix special. The TV personality is currently busy with her comedy tour, Ellen’s Last Stand…Up.
Having begun her stand-up comedian career in the early 1980s, she quickly garnered acclaim for her relatable comic style and sharp wit, winning audiences’ hearts.
After gaining success with Ellen sitcom, she launched The Ellen DeGeneres Show which ran for 19 seasons before ending two years ago. But her recent announcement is hinting at a permanent stepping away from the glam world.

On July 1, Ellen DeGeneres took the stage at the Luther Burbank Center for the Arts for her Ellen’s Last Stand…Up tour in Santa Rosa, part of a three-night set.
The 66-year-old comedian had a nostalgic time with her near sold-out crowd as per SFGate, as it had a pretty similar vibe as that of The Ellen DeGeneres Show.
On the show, the 33 Daytime Emmy awardee reflected on getting away from the show-biz world stating,
This is the last time you’re going to see me. After my Netflix special, I’m done.
She further addressed her absence from the spotlight to catch people up on her life two years after her famous show was canceled. She stated,
Let me catch you up on what’s been going on with me since you last saw me. I got chickens. Oh yeah, and I got kicked out of show business for being mean.
She admitted that she “can be demanding and impatient and tough. I am a strong woman. I am many things, but I am not mean.”
Reflecting on the mean tag, she opened up about how the outcome has made her realize the sensitive topic. She added, “I used to say, ‘I don’t care what people say about me.’ Now I realize I said that during the height of my popularity.”
She continued, “Next time, I’ll be kicked out for being old. Old, gay and mean, the triple crown.” Although she admitted to being a harsh and immature boss, she never completely apologized for her actions. However, there were times when she said there were “rumors” that she was mean.
Ellen DeGeneres’s Reputation Took a Hit Due to Toxic Work Environment Allegations
The actress, who was once known for spreading kindness and humor, faced a significant controversy back in 2020, which led to his show’s cancelation. Her long-running The Ellen DeGeneres Show became the center of toxic work environment allegations, with staffers accusing her of creating that atmosphere.
Back in July of that year, BuzzFeed News published an article that featured the experiences of several former employees who claimed they were subjected to a hostile work environment.
Claims included instances of racial microaggressions, fear, and intimidation of retribution, such as being sidelined or even terminated. Not just that, senior producers were accused of sexual harassment and inappropriate behavior, including making lewd comments and engaging in improper relationships with lower-level employees.
Even taking a medical leave would turn out to be a hassle as the report mentioned that the employee was allegedly told that their position was being eliminated, after returning to work. In the aftermath, three producers were fired but the show never recovered and eventually ended after 19 seasons.
