Hollywood star Adrien Brody is known for his versatile and captivating performances in a series of films. Following his feature film debut in the late 80s with New York Stories, he had his big break in the 2002 biographical drama The Pianist. The actor reportedly learned how to play piano to portray the classical composer Władysław Szpilman in the biopic and was awarded several accolades for his performance, including an Academy Award for Best Actor.
However, his dedication is not limited to his on-screen personas only. The actor is known to be a speed racing enthusiast. During an interview with Daily Mail, he opened up about an incident that prompted him to reflect deeply on his life.
Adrien Brody’s Near-Death Experience While Filming in India
Adrien Brody starred alongside Jason Schwartzman and Owen Wilson in Wes Anderson’s 2007 comedy-drama The Darjeeling Limited. The movie follows three brothers who have a conflicted relationship and come together to take a train ride across India on a spiritual quest after their father’s death.
Talking about his passion for bikes and racing with Daily Mail, the 50-year-old actor recalled his near-death experience while filming the 2007 film in India. “I almost died,” he shared. He further stated that he was driving behind a “motorized rickshaw” when he came across a cow and “nearly slammed into it.” He told the Daily Mail,
“I was laughing because it seemed so absurd. I was thinking, ‘This is going to be the way I’ll be remembered: rear-ending a cow – all the years of hard work, and this is it..”
It was not the first incident he had while riding a bike. The actor has shared that he grew up building racing sports cars following his passion for racing and speed. He suffered a similar incident at the age of 19 while riding a motorbike.
Adrien Brody Shares His Passion For Race Car Driving
Adrien Brody shared his love for race car driving during the 2014 Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach Pro/Celebrity Race with The Hollywood Reporter. The Oscar winner shared that he has always appreciated the sport as he grew up with a fascination for drag racing and muscle cars. However, he was unable to have the track training.
He shared that the kids on his block built cars on a budget, which “didn’t really handle well” but helped them learn how to drive. “There was never any fear!” he told The Hollywood Reporter. The Grand Budapest Hotel star joined the 38th annual charity race for the 1.97-mile street course in downtown Long Beach. The event raised money for children’s hospitals via Racing for Kids.
The Darjeeling Limited is available on Prime Video.
