Vincent D’Onofrio’s Kingpin served the villain MCU street-level heroes needed to flex the justification of their character. Kingpin is powerful and worthy, he is not afraid to plot anything to tease these heroes on many occasions. D’Onofrio is perfect as Kingpin, or at least, fans and critics will not refute the credit he deserves for playing the character.
Most recently, the actor reprised his role in the Disney Plus miniseries Echo but this is certainly not the end of the character. He is already scheduled to appear in Daredevil: Born Again in the MCU canon, and the post-credit scenes are indicators of Kingpin’s next move.
Vincent D’Onofrio In Daredevil: Born Again Could Be Different
By the end of Echo, Alaqua Cox’s Maya attempted to heal Wilson Fisk a.k.a. Kingpin with her newly discovered Choctaw powers. And that was the turning point as fans were in awe to find the next move of Kingpin. Speaking with The Hollywood Reporters, Kingpin actor Vincent D’Onofrio explained if Fisk has really changed after the healing phase. “No, I don’t think that,” D’Onofrio said. “I want to do the right thing here and say something that is true, but not too revealing.”
“I don’t think he’s changed; I think he’s enlightened. I haven’t seen a lot of the episodes of Echo. So, in my mind, after everything goes down with Maya, he gets on a plane, and the news is playing on the plane. It says, ‘New York is going to be looking for a new mayor soon,’ and as he’s watching it, a light bulb goes on. So, by the end of that flight, he decides, ‘If I want to be all powerful, this is what I’m going to do.’ That’s the most I can tell you.”
Of course, D’Onofrio hasn’t watched Echo but still has the gravity of what MCU has stored for him. Kingpin running for mayor as teased in the end-credit scene is quite synonymous with the comics and the glimpse of what is revealed in the show indicates Kingpin is all set to become the Mayor.
Vincent D’Onofrio is Excited For Daredevil: Born Again
D’Onofrio is certainly excited for Daredevil: Born Again. Moon Knight and Loki directors duo Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead have been hired to direct the upcoming MCU series for Disney Plus. D’Onofrio is overjoyed by the news, “I’m a huge fan of those guys,” the 64-year-old told THR.
“And I talk to them all the time now. I’m so happy that they’re doing this show. I’m just so happy about it. When I heard that, I was like, ‘OK, not only are we switching things up, but the bosses are doing the right thing for us.’ They’ve given us their hottest talent, and that’s pretty cool. So the first thing I did was thank them. I thanked Kevin [Feige] for doing that and sticking with Charlie and I. It’s a pretty amazing thing.”
Other than Charlie Cox as Daredevil/Matt Murdock and D’Onofrio’s Kingpin; Daredevil: Born Again will star Jon Bernthal as The Punisher/Frank Castle, alongside Sandrine Holt, Nikki James, Margarita Levieva, Michael Gandolfini, Arty Froushan. Daredevil: Born Again does not have a release date as of yet.
Echo is currently streaming on Disney Plus.
