Following her departure from The Mandalorian, Gina Carano has now filed a lawsuit against Disney and Lucasfilm. However, the 41-year-old actress continues to face significant backlash on social media, with many users condemning her for making hateful statements.

Gina Carano Faces Backlash Amid Lawsuit Against Lucasfilm And Disney

In 2021, Lucasfilm announced Gina Carano’s departure from The Mandalorian after she shared a post drawing parallels between contemporary political divisions and historical events involving the persecution of Jews. It was one in a series of controversial statements, as the actress has continued to receive backlash for her stance on hot-button issues.

However, as she filed her lawsuit, Carano claimed that her “words were consistently twisted to demonize & dehumanize me as an alt right wing extremist.” The lawsuit has been filed in the California federal court, in which Carano claimed to be wrongfully terminated and discriminated against. She has demanded the court to force Lucasfilm to recast her in the show and pay at least $75,000 with additional punitive damages.

The actress is also getting the support of Elon Musk, who is funding the lawsuit through X (Twitter). He promised financial assistance to X (Twitter) users facing discrimination in the workplace for their activities on the platform earlier in 2023. “As a sign of X Corp’s commitment to free speech, we’re proud to provide financial support for Gina Carano’s lawsuit,” said X’s head of business operations Joe Benarroch in a statement.

However, the actress has continued to face backlash, as people condemned her behavior on social media. One Twitter user shared that her lawsuit “holds no ground and just reeks of desperation,” claiming how the studio and even Jon Favreau himself gave her multiple opportunities to retract her statements. Many others also described it as her desperate attempt to be employed again.

Why is Gina Carano Facing Backlash For Suing Disney and Lucasfilm?

The Mandalorian star Gina Carano has been under criticism since she shared a controversial Instagram post in 2021 in which she compared the historical persecution of Jews to political divisiveness. Her social media post read,

“Jews were beaten in the streets, not by Nazi soldiers but by their neighbours … even by children … Because history is edited, most people today don’t realise that to get to the point where Nazi soldiers could easily round up thousands of Jews, the government first made their own neighbours hate them simply for being Jews. How is that any different from hating someone for their political views.”

Although the post was deleted soon after, it led to a huge backlash for the actress with #FireGinaCarano trending online. Lucasfilm soon released a statement saying that Carano would no longer be part of The Mandalorian after her “abhorrent and unacceptable” posts on social media. Apart from her infamous Instagram post, the Deadpool actress has also been subjected to backlash and criticism for allegedly making transphobic comments on social media and sharing anti-mask memes amid the 2020 pandemic.

And her controversial statements have been the reason why the actress continues to face backlash amid the lawsuit. However, she has defended herself in her recent tweet, claiming that her comments were “directed to the online bullies” and that she did not “denigrate transgender people.” Carano also denied mocking government mandates during the 2020 pandemic, saying that she only wanted to “discuss” these things at that time.
