In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Iman Vellani talked about her character, Kamala Khan aka Ms. Marvel’s origins as she is revealed to have a Mutant gene by the end of The Marvels. This surely is a great honor given that Marvel is fully gearing up to incorporate mutant characters in their universe.

When asked whether this change was something that they added later on or whether she was aware of it or not, Iman Vellani replied,

“That was sort of a late surprise. We did do that in additional photography, but I think they were just waiting on the go-ahead to be able to film it.”

Though she filmed the part initially, she was unsure whether it would be in the final cut or not.

“Even when we were filming it, we didn’t know if it was going to make the cut at the end of the day. So I was praying.”

She further revealed about emailing Marvel Studios President, Kevin Feige about keeping this part and the rest is history.

“I emailed Kevin and I was like, ‘This needs to be real,’ because what an honor it is to be called the first mutant in the MCU. It’s just so cool.”

Her mutant origins were already hinted at in the season 1 finale of her Disney+ series, Ms. Marvel. This honor of being the MCU’s first mutant would seemingly be taken differently by Ryan Reynolds who plays Wade Wilson aka Deadpool in the MCU.

Ryan Reynolds’ Wade Wilson aka Deadpool is one of the fan-favorite characters due to his unique humor. With the third installment of his standalone movie, Deadpool in the works, it won’t take much time to witness him again on-screen. Given that the upcoming movie, Deadpool 3 is also making X-Men to return the franchise, it will surely gonna give Merc with a Mouth a wide topic to joke about. Now, that Kamala Khan is revealed to have mutant origins, Reynolds would surely gonna turn her into a joke for comic purposes.

Even the movie writers confirmed that they have a lot to joke about in the universe now that the rights are being bankrolled under Marvel. In an appearance on the Post Credits Podcast, movie writers, Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick confirmed that Deadpool’s humor won’t be compromised in any way.

“How many movies have they given us? 25? 26? 28? Something like that. We have a treasure trove of things to poke fun at now… and Deadpool’s an equal [opportunist] so everyone’s fair game.”

They also added that the franchise is quite supportive of keeping the character the way he is. With The Marvels already running in theatres, it can highly likely be a part of Merc with a Mouth’s humor which means our MCU’s first mutant is indirectly linked.

Meanwhile, Reynolds’s upcoming movie is now slated to release on July 26, 2024.
