Zack Snyder’s reputation as a filmmaker has become very divisive since his tenure in the DC universe. While he has loyal fans, many do not enjoy his unique take on beloved IPs and characters. The director tried his hand at Star Wars-inspired sci-fi with the two Rebel Moon films on Netflix.

While the films had an ambitious vision and scope, the underwhelming executive and boring characters led to them becoming two of the worst-reviewed Snyder films. With the director’s cut of the films coming next month, a spinoff prequel in the form of a podcast has been announced but fans aren’t interested in the franchise anymore.

The Rebel Moon films promised to be a new epic sci-fi franchise from the mind of Zack Snyder when it was announced. The promotional material was very exciting with all the impressive visual style that the director is known for. However, the films were hated by fans who deemed it a very boring space opera with lazy character work.

While Snyder has big plans for the franchise, audiences are already done with the franchise as the two Rebel Moon films did not work. The director has now announced a new prequel to the two films in the form of a podcast titled The Seneschal. According to Netflix Tudum, the project is set 500 years before the films and tells the origin story of the Jimmys, the robot knights voiced by Anthony Hopkins in the films.

However, fans are bashing Snyder for still making more out of the franchise despite the negative reception of the films. They do not understand the director’s intention with the podcast and are demanding to stop milking out unnecessary projects out of an IP. Here are some of the reactions on X,

While the premise sounds exciting, the films let down audiences big time and they do not have any faith in the franchise anymore. Stars like Ella Purnell, Naveen Andrews, Alfred Enoch, Peter Serafinowicz, and Jason Isaacs will voice new characters in the project. The Seneschal will premiere on any podcasting apps like Spotify/Apple Music from July 29, consisting of 6 episodes (dropping weekly).

Zack Snyder and Netflix have introduced audiences to a new set of characters in an intriguing sci-fi world with the first two Rebel Moon films. The ending of part 2 teased that the story is far from over. In an interview with one of the writers of the film Kurt Johnstad, he revealed that fans wouldn’t need to wait too long for a third film.

Johnstad further stated that he and Shay Hatten know where the story goes from the ending of part 2 and have white-boarded everything about the third film. He also claimed that he has written almost 20 pages of the threequel. The writer told Cinemablend,

I don’t think it would take too long. We know exactly where the story goes. We’ve got it all figured out. It’s all whiteboarded out and I’ve written probably the first like 20 pages of the third movie. So it wouldn’t be that big of a deal to get to it. But we’ll see. I wouldn’t say it’s easy, but we can get to it.

Snyder is set to release the director’s cut of the two Rebel Moon films on August 2. Fans might change their mind about the underwhelming nature of the films once they see the new cuts. The excitement of the third film now wholly depends on the reception of the director’s cuts.
