The appointment of Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn and producer Peter Safran as co-CEOs of DC Studios, effectively replacing Walter Hamada, sparked a bright future for the DCU. It finally felt like Hamada’s restrictive vision for the franchise was finally going to end and much-awaited projects(such as updates on Henry Cavill’s Man of Steel return) would soon follow.
Preceding the appointment of the pair as the new heads of DC Studios was the unexpected announcement of the Man of Steel sequel that has been sought after by fans ever since the release of the original in 2013. Henry Cavill had even posted an update on his Instagram to tease fans of his return, but alas, all the bright hopes for the future of the DCU went haywire just a week ago.
Henry Cavill’s Man Of Steel 2 Gets The Cold Shoulder From DCU, Again
The current DCU, which is based on the vision of Zack Snyder for the franchise, seemed to be nearing its end before James Gunn and Peter Safran became heads of DC Studios at the start of November.
However, announcements regarding plans for a revamped DCU soon came up and were eventually confirmed, pointing toward a new future for the franchise moving away from what Zack Snyder had wanted the DCU to be.
This would mean that the much-anticipated sequel to Man of Steel as well as the third installation in the Wonder Woman movie series would be shown the door, much to the dismay of fans. Even Jason Momoa will be seeing his final appearance as Aquaman in the third installation of the franchise, but reports are also hinting that he’ll be recast as the bounty hunter Lobo.
This came as a huge shock to many DCU fans, especially fans of Zack Snyder and Henry Cavill. The announcement of a new feature movie about DC’s flagship character Superman by James Gunn has also been met with a lot of criticism from fans, who can only hope that whatever Gunn is planning for the franchise would be worth ending a whole universe built over a decade.
Henry Cavill Fans Say Man Of Steel Cancellation Will Dent Cavill’s Career
Henry Cavill‘s future in the DCU is essentially undetermined now, with the actor having already pulled out of the lead role in one of his most successful projects, The Witcher TV series. He will be replaced by Liam Hemsworth as Geralt of Rivia.
But with fans convinced that he had dropped that role to excitedly (and finally) return as Superman in Man of Steel 2, a revamp of the DCU without any assurance of his involvement in the same has them worried over their star actor’s acting career.
Twitter especially has gone wild, and they are really voicing their concern for the Argylle star-
If i were Henry Cavill right now, I'd be so angry, so embarrassed and probably firing my manager and agency right now. This really could damage the dude's career, he just dropped Witcher too. Would he of done that if he knew Superman wasn't coming?

Fair point-
Everyone keeps saying it was the creative difference that led him away from the Witcher but let’s be real, getting Superman back must’ve played a massive role in the decision to leave. He put up with that shit for 3 seasons and leaves as soon as Superman comes back? Coincidence?

Should he seek greener pastures?-
That's a blessing in disguise on the contrary, now he can make that Highlander movie or maybe have a chance to be the next Bond since he cleared his agenda

Some suggest he should join the Westeros-
Will @HBO wise up and cast him for Aegon’s Conquest?

A huge factor-
I think if Black Adam had been the success that the Rock dreamed it would have somehow forced Gunn to stay with Cavill.

Hope Hollywood does him justice-
Yea. He is a fan. He cares about the fans. He is a man in the wrong time. Hopefully someone uses his talent for the right reason

Whatever happens, fans will at least be assured by the fact that Henry Cavill isn’t just some D-listed actor. He’s bound to get roles in major movies, and a possible switch of sides to the MCU cannot be ruled out either!
You can watch Man of Steel, which is currently available for streaming on Netflix.
