It isn’t every day that you hear about a biopic movie receiving a lot of hate even before its theatrical release. However, that is exactly what is happening with the biopic Back to Black of the English singer Amy Winehouse, who sadly passed away back in 2011.
The director of the biographical movie Back to Black, Sam Taylor-Johnson recently, opened up in an interview and defended the movie from the backlash it has been receiving lately.
Sam Taylor-Johnson defends Amy Winehouse’s upcoming biopic, Back to Black
Amy Winehouse could’ve been one of the most successful music artists in the industry of all time. The English actress first rose to fame on the back of her debut album, Frank, back in 2003 at the mere age of 19.
After the success of Frank, Winehouse released a second album, Back to Black, which went on to become an even bigger success than her previous album. The album earned her multiple accolades including five Grammy Awards at the 50th Grammy Awards, making her one of the most successful British singers of all time.
However, Amy Winehouse passed away at the young age of 27 due to alcohol poisoning, thus marking the end of her short-lived, yet amazing career. A few years ago, it was reported by Deadline that StudioCanal decided to move forward with making a biopic of the singer and appointed Sam Taylor-Johnson as the director of the movie, Back to Black.
Ever since the trailer for the upcoming biopic Back to Black was released, fans of Amy Winehouse have been accusing the movie of exploiting the life story of the singer. In a recent interview with The Times, Sam Taylor-Johnson opened up about the same and denied the claims. She said,
“Noise will always be big about something like this, but nobody has really seen it yet and we’ve made it through Amy’s words, music, her perspective. Anything else would, yes, have been exploitative, but this retelling lacks tragic hindsight…It is not an investigative piece — it joyfully honours Amy.”
Back to Black is all set to be released later this year on 17 May.
Aaron Taylor-Johnson opens up about the grooming allegations surrounding his wife
People usually tend to look down upon a couple if there is a massive age difference between them. A similar thing has been happening with Hollywood star Aaron Taylor-Johnson, who met his wife, Sam Taylor-Johnson, when he was just a teenager.
The couple met for the first time back in 2009 on the set of the biographic film Nowhere Boy, when Aaron Taylor-Johnson was only 18 at the time and Sam Taylor-Johnson was more than two decades older than him. The couple announced their engagement back in 2009 at the premiere of the movie, Nowhere Boy.
A lot of grooming allegations surrounding the couple have taken over the internet quite recently and in a recent interview with Rolling Stone UK, Aaron Taylor-Johnson opened up about the same and said,
“What you gotta realise, is that what most people were doing in their twenties, I was doing when I was 13. You’re doing something too quickly for someone else? I don’t understand that. What speed are you supposed to enjoy life at? It’s bizarre to me.”
Aaron Taylor-Johnson has also been making a lot of headlines after it was recently revealed by The Sun that the star is allegedly all set to take on the iconic role of James Bond. There have been many speculations about the role for almost 3 years now, ever since Daniel Craig retired from the role after No Time to Die.
A number of celebrities, including Pierce Brosnan, have also opened up about Aaron Taylor-Johnson taking up the role of Agent 007.
