Hollywood star Miles Teller had a near-death experience on the set of the 2022 action drama Top Gun: Maverick. The sequel to the 1986 film, which brought back Tom Cruise as Captain Pete “Maverick” Mitchell alongside Teller as Rooster, earned six nominations at the 2023 Academy Awards and won the Oscar for Best Sound.
While it has become the most significant film of his career, it also marked a traumatic memory for the actor, as he has shared that a distressing incident during the filming of the movie left him fearing for his life.
Miles Teller Recalled the Harrowing Experience on Top Gun 2 Set
The cast of the 2022 action drama Top Gun: Maverick went through a rigorous five-month training course to prepare them for the demanding physical challenges, particularly the intense G-forces, they would face while handling their own cameras in the skies.
During an interview with LADbible, Miles Teller opened up about the experience he had while filming some of the most exhilarating aerial sequences for the 2022 blockbuster Top Gun: Maverick. And the actor also admitted to fearing for his life during the high-speed maneuvers in an F-18 Hornet jet.
He recalled a challenging “max G pull-up” sequence which includes the aircraft veering towards the ground before pulling up sharply. Teller, who shared that it’s really tough even for a pilot, recalled it as an alarming moment when he believed his life was in danger. He shared,
“I definitely had a moment where I thought I was going to die—It’s something they train in all the time, but it was the first time we’d done a maneuver like that and I completely stopped acting. I looked at the ground, and thought this wasn’t going to end well for me.”
Despite the adrenaline-fueled fear, Teller managed to maintain his composure. And Teller did not experience any such episodes throughout the film’s production. And the 37-year-old actor attributed this to what he considers a “secret skill” he possesses.
Miles Teller is Expected to Reprise His Role in Top Gun 3
Top Gun: Maverick not only outscored its predecessor but has also become Tom Cruise’s highest-grossing film to date, amassing over $1.49 billion worldwide. Following its immense commercial and critical success, discussions have emerged regarding a potential third installment in the series.
Reports have stated that a third film is in development at Paramount, with plans to reunite Cruise with his Maverick co-stars Miles Teller and Glen Powell. However, no director has been confirmed for the project at this time. Teller has also expressed his enthusiasm for a sequel, particularly focusing on his character, Rooster.
In an interview with ScreenRant, the actor shared, “I’m trying to get a Top Gun: Rooster,” as he expressed his intrigue and interest in exploring his character further. However, it remains uncertain whether the third installment will predominantly center around Teller’s Rooster or feature the ensemble cast from the 2022 film.
