Chris Hemsworth’s Thor has gotten one of the most interesting journeys in the MCU. Taika Waititi did a fabulous job of reviving the franchise with a new humorous touch in Thor: Ragnarok, only to butcher it all down with Love and Thunder. With his departure from the upcoming fifth part, new rumors state that Marvel is paying heed to the fans and planning to have a serious tone in it.
According to an industry insider, the MCU is planning to add new characters along with a new director to the next installment of Thor. The film is expected to not only do justice to the Chris Hemsworth superhero but also connect to the bigger picture of Avengers: Secret Wars.
What do we know about Thor 5?
Thor: Love and Thunder wasted one of the greatest storylines of the Norse God featuring Gorr the God Butcher. The fans were utterly disappointed when they saw a gem of an actor like Christian Bale to be wasted on screen like that. However, it looks like the MCU has learned from its mistakes and planning to add a more serious touch to the story.
As reported by HolyField News, the Kevin Feige studio is planning to start Thor 5’s production in late 2025. The project is expected to have a tonal shift and Valhalla is expected to be revisited by the Chris Hemsworth superhero once again to achieve extraordinary abilities. One of the most demanded characters by the fans, Beta Ray Bill is also rumored to appear in the film.
Besides Beta Ray Bill, rumors also state the MCU debut for Thor Corps and Amora the Enchantress. While the latter is one of the most significant villains of Odinson from the comics and is expected to connect the film to Secret Wars, the film is also expected to go multiversal through Thor Corps.
The Thor Corps played a significant role in Jonathan Hickman’s Secret Wars comic run. It was formed by multiple men and women worthy to wield the power of Mjolnir, who acted as the police force of God Emperor Doom in the BattleWorld. As we are approaching Avengers: Secret Wars, it will be beneficial to get more movies connected to the Multiverse Saga.
Directors Gareth Edwards, Chloe Zhao, and Kenneth Branagh are considered by the studio to helm the project.
Who will be the perfect choice to direct Thor 5?
The rumors related to Gareth Edwards started floating around the internet since trusted insider Daniel Richtman reported it via his Patreon account. Although Chloe Zhao is also said to be in consideration, it is debatable if the studio will go back to the Oscar-winning Zhao after Eternals’ poor performance.
On the other hand, Kenneth Branagh can be an interesting choice as the people liked his Shakespearean touch to the God of Thunder in the first film. Nevertheless, it can’t be denied that Gareth Edwards can be the best person for the MCU to helm Thor 5. He made one of the best Star Wars projects in the form of Rogue One and can introduce a gripping and serious tone in the MCU.
Besides Rogue One, Gareth Edwards can also utilize his Godzilla (2014) experience to promise good CGI work. Even though everything is a rumor, Edwards’ involvement in Thor 5 along with the rumored storyline can make up for a great film on the God of Thunder. The character that was reduced to jokes by Taika Waititi can once again rise to the level of Almighty.
All the Thor and other MCU movies can be streamed on Disney+.
