Pirates of the Caribbean has explored some interesting and uncharted territories under Johnny Depp’s reign as Captain Jack Sparrow. The movies were filled with various elements and themes all resonating the feelings of fun, thrill, and excitement. All five films were loved in one way or another, even though not all had as strong a box office run as others.

There were many ideas explored and those that could never make it from concepts to paper. Although a 6th installment is in the works, Depp’s involvement is less than likely. As such, there were many ideas he too wanted to explore that still remain untouched. Having done so many different films in the franchise, there was one concept in particular the actor wanted to explore. One that may never happen, or occur in the absence of Depp.
Johnny Depp Wanted Time Traveling Pirates
During an interview with Paul Fischer (via Girl.com.au), Johnny Depp talked about the various opportunities the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise offered as he promoted Dead Man’s Chest. His tone was of a man filled with hope for a series of films that would offer fans entertainment like no other.

Time travel, why not? No, I don’t know. Ted and Terry, the writers, and Gore, what they were able to do on the first one and then taking that to what they’ve done now with the second one and then going into the third, it’s pretty amazing. We’re getting close to just even stretching the boundaries a bit more.
For a man whose head was filled with ideas to help take the franchise to new heights, he had one thought in particular that would have been a great chance to explore uncharted territory. The thought of time-traveling pirates may not be new, with books and even Doctor Who episodes delving into that territory, but it was certainly unique for Pirates of the Caribbean.
He focused on how the franchise had been expanding and no idea seemed too bizarre in his mind. So to explore something of that side of fantasy may not be too wrong.
Johnny Depp’s Dream Pirates Film is Less than Likely to Happen
Had Disney been going down the path Johnny Depp envisioned, a Pirates of the Caribbean movie with time-traveling sea thieves would have perhaps even happened. If not a sixth then maybe a seventh or an eighth movie. The possibilities were endless and the vision was even greater. However, now that does not seem to be the case.

While years ago fans could look forward to a time-travel movie about pirates, now their eagerness is just over the news of Depp’s possible return to the franchise. Unfortunately, that too does not look to be so strong.
Disney fired the actor during his trial with Amber Heard and since then the betrayal he felt wasn’t easy to get over. His return to the franchise doesn’t look so promising and thus the thought of a time-travel film may not happen either.
