Live-action and anime have a very sour relationship due to the failed attempts to produce good live-action. It was not until 2023 that a live-action series finally broke the curse and accumulated ground-breaking success, and it was none other than One Piece. However, Bleach achieved substantial success in 2018 with its live action.
Bleach Live Action was one of the few live-action movies that were genuinely good and received positive responses from the fans. However, the creator of the series, Tite Kubo, was concerned about the hair color, which could have turned the odds against the movie.
Ichigo’s hair color in the live-action movie was an issue for Tite Kubo
Fans always want to see a good live-action of their favorite anime that does justice to the author’s work, and Bleach’s live-action film managed to do it.
When the movie was announced, Tite Kubo got involved with the production to deliver a faithful and good movie to the audience.
His involvement proved beneficial, as the audience appreciated the series well and thought it looked better than other live actions to date.
However, one thing was a matter of concern for Tite Kubo, and that was none other than the hair color of the story’s main protagonist, Kurosaki Ichigo. He said:
“If that color is in the live-action movie, it’d be strange, so I wonder what they’re going to do!”
As Ichigo has orange hair, it would look weird on him, as most people in Japan don’t have orange hair, and it might strike odd in live-action.
However, it did not cause significant issues as they managed to tone down the hair color, which did not look odd.
The actor who portrayed Ichigo in the series was Sota Fukushi, who did an excellent job portraying the character.

Bleach live-action movie performed better than expectations set by the audience
Bleach Live Action was released in 2018, and up until that point, live-action movies were mostly box office disasters and always received negative reviews from fans.
However, the adaptation of Bleach into live-action was a big gamble, as many expected the series to fall victim to the same curse.
Meanwhile, the series performed exceptionally well, and the involvement of Kubo sensei might be one of the reasons for it, as might the actors, who did an excellent job of portraying the characters.
The movie adapts the first arc of the series, which consists of Ichigo getting his power through Rukia and the introduction of Renji and Byukuya.
The series accumulated ¥493,052,600 throughout its run time and $4.4 million worldwide, making it a commercial success.
