The success of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is undeniable. After many movies and animated shows that all originated thanks to the comic, this franchise keeps making great content. TMNT has something for fans of all ages; the comics are for a more adult audience.

The animated shows are geared towards younger audiences, and there are even more passionate projects, such as the movie done by Seth Rogen last year, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem. But there is a comic that older gamers are expecting to be adapted into a new game, The Last Ronin.

The Last Ronin limited-issue comic has an alternative future where almost every turtle dies at the hands of Shredder’s grandson, Oroku Hiroto. Introduced the only remaining live turtle that will fight against this enemy with all the weapons of his fallen brothers to honor them. 

This comic by Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird was a very old idea that came out in 2020 and was a complete success in sales. According to Eastman in an interview with GameInformer, the success of The Last Ronin was a surprise.

It just opened up like a Pandora’s Box of a lot of original fans finding it or maybe fans that were fans back in the day but have not picked up a Turtle thing in years were coming back to it.

He expressed how happy he was with how the project was turning out and how fans are adoring it as well.

So beautiful. So fantastic. And so pretty much every fan of Last Ronin that I’ve talked to is really, seriously pumped, like, ‘We get to have an older version of the Turtles just for us as a video game!

It seems that The Last Ronin is truly something to be looking out for.

Black Forest Games from THQ Nordic is developing a game adapted from this comic. This title was announced in August 2023.

Eastman talked about the state of The Last Ronin and how he is very positive about how the project is coming together. TMNT as a franchise keeps getting bigger, and fans are very happy with the current state of this IP in all areas.

There is no information about when the game will be ready, but we can probably can expect a release sometime in 2025.
