Elizabeth Olsen’s Scarlet Witch has had a firm hold in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The character has gone through quite a bit and her arc was finally complete in last year’s Doctor Strange: Multiverse of Madness. While at the end of the film, Wanda Maximoss was presumed to be dead, fans are aware that characters in the MCU rarely remain so.

The MCU has been having a tough time staying in the limelight after the less-than-spectacular response to Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania as well as its series Secret Invasion. The franchise is hoping to gain momentum with much-awaited films like Deadpool 3 and Blade. Industry insiders also report that Wanda Maximoff might just return to the MCU.

Elizabeth Olsen debuted in the MCU as Wanda Maximoff in Joss Whedon’s Avengers: Age of Ultron. The film introduced her along with her twin-brother Pietro Maximoff or Quicksilver. She and Pietro are experimented on with the Mind Stone by Hydra, thus developing superpowers. She loses her brother in the film.

In Captain America: Civil War, Wanda joins the Avengers but becomes Team Rogers when Tony Stark is for signing a clause that limits the Avengers’ jurisdiction. Wanda and Vision’s romance also starts in Civil War. In Avengers: Infinity War, Wanda loses Vision as Thanos sets out to take the Mind Stone and is killed by the Snap. After being resurrected, she fights Thanos in Avengers: Endgame along with the rest of the Avengers.

Will Elizabeth Olsen Return In The MCU?

Seeing how popular Elizabeth Olsen’s character is in the MCU, and how deaths are usually treated in the shared universe, it is safe to say that Wanda Maximoff will return. While there has been no confirmation on when she will be appearing in a film or series, many projects in development that are connected to Maximoff might give more clarity.

The next series in development is Agatha: Coven of Chaos. The series will be centered around the titular Agatha who made an appearance in WandaVision and is hell-bent on taking the powers of the Darkhold. According to The Cosmic Circus, Marvel is planning to introduce ‘The Witches’ Road’, an alternate dimension, after the series and a potential special to describe the origins of the dimension. Wanda could be making appearances in these projects or, could have references to her.

Sources also mention her possible appearance in VisionQuest, a series centered on Vision and his quest to find himself. The comic storyline on which the series is based introduces Vision’s synthezoid family, with his wife Virginia modeled after Wanda. This gives ample opportunity for Olsen to return to the MCU.

Another rumor that has been doing the rounds is her appearance in Deadpool 3 as a Wanda variant on Earth-838. This alternate universe was explored in Multiverse of Madness and featured an extended sequence where Wanda massacres the Illuminati. Sources claim that Wanda might join the universe’s Magneto and make an appearance in the Deadpool threequel, which also features Wolverine.

Regarding her return, Elizabeth Olsen has not mentioned anything. In an interview after Multiverse of Madness, Olsen said,

“We can do anything with her now! I feel like we’ve done so much. Now, we can really have fun; I feel like there’s a lot more humor to be had with her. She’s often the emotion of a story, and I’m curious to see what we can explore. And hopefully [we can] give her some redemption.”

While there has been no confirmation on Doctor Strange 3, the film could also see a potential appearance from the character. With the SAG-AFTRA strikes delaying many plans made by studios, only time will tell when the Scarlet Witch will return.
