Lindsay Lohan got her breakthrough role as a child actor in The Parent Trap in 1998. She also made her mark as a singer with hits like Rumors and Confessions of a Broken Heart (Daughter to Father). Her most prominent mature role was in the sleeper hit film, Mean Girls, in 2004. Lohan was riding high on her career when she grappled with substance abuse and started behaving erratically.

Throughout this time in her career, she went in and out of rehabilitation facilities. In May 2007, she was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol (DUI). She was arrested for the second time, for DUI and possession of cocaine, in July of that year. In 2010, Lohan was sentenced to 90 days in prison for violating the terms of her probation. Lohan spent 14 days in jail before her release due to prison overcrowding.

Lindsay Lohan reminisced her jail time when she appeared on The Jonathan Ross Show in 2014. She appeared alongside Russell Brand who also shared having troubles with the law in the past. Lohan revealed that she had been placed in solitary confinement for the 14 days that she was in jail. The authorities claimed that this was for her own safety, as they alleged that the other inmates were jailed for murder.

Lindsay Lohan shared that her prison time was very scary. She believed that the sentencing was excessively severe for the charge she was arrested for. Lohan had missed her mandatory DUI classes and meetings during her probation period, which led to a more stringent sentence. About her time in prison, the Freaky Friday actress shared with Jonathan Ross:

“I made a mistake, I went to a club and then I drank and I drove home and that’s not the right thing to do but to put someone in that position, it was very scary, it was very jarring.”

However, she also found the experience in solitary confinement weirdly comforting. She revealed that she never had so much silence in her life, referring to her parent’s messy divorce and the constant media attention to her career. Lohan felt that she needn’t answer anyone for the first time in her life. Lohan shared on the talk show:

“The weirdest part for me was I finally had silence in my life. As terrified as I was and as scared as I was, I finally felt like I didn’t have to answer to anyone and I didn’t have to do anything for anyone. That was the weirdest part of it.”
