Back in 1984, the actor-director duo Arnold Schwarzenegger and James Cameron presented the world with such a cinema whose success remains unmatched to this day. The Terminator was turned into a $2 billion franchise with several sequels, the impact it had on the world of cinema is unparallel, and in turn, served as a turning point in the industry back then.

The films still serve as a reminder of how ahead of its time it was, in a recent interview with People, the actor, and lead of the franchise, Schwarzenegger helped people realize how the movie predicted the future, all while discussing his concerns with the world of the artificial intelligence. The actor praised the brainchild of Cameron and said,

“Today, everyone is frightened of it, of where this is gonna go,—And in this movie, in Terminator, we talk about the machines becoming self-aware and they take over,”

He went on to emphasize that despite the scarcity of information on the subject back in the day, Cameron managed to develop a script that bore a striking resemblance to the current day and age. He said,

“At that time we (had) scratched the surface of AI, artificial intelligence. Think about that.—Now over the course of decades, it has become a reality. So it’s not any more fantasy or kind of futuristic. It is here today. And so this is the extraordinary writing of Jim Cameron,”

“He’s just such an extraordinary writer and he’s such an unbelievable director, this is again, one of those things that I wish I could take credit for this movie. I can only take credit of the character that I played and the way I played it. But I mean, he has created this character. He has written it so well, he’s written the movie so well, and that’s why he is, you know, the number one director in the world.”

Thus, although it is true that the writing in the movie, The Terminator bore an uncanny resemblance to today’s world, only time will tell how accurately its depiction of the future unfolds.
