With director Joseph Kosinski taking the Top Gun franchise to newer heights with Top Gun: Maverick, the third part seems to have to be a bit more futuristic. With alleged AI bots and fighter jets, fans are already making wild theories about the upcoming movie!
Top Gun 3 Is In The Works And Fans Have Already Gone Crazy
Back in 1986, Top Gun was a brand-new concept in the world of cinema. With Tom Cruise starting his career with fighter jets and an adrenaline-inducing mission, the film received great reviews and is deemed as one of the best classic movies of all time.
In 2022, director Joseph Kosinski and Tom Cruise took the film to newer heights as the duo embraced and respected the passage of time. With how Cruise becomes older in the film and starts training other academies at Top Gun, the film is a brilliant homage to the original days of glory and how Maverick got to relive them with his best friend’s son. In a recent post on X, it has been confirmed that Top Gun 3 is in the works.

Tom Cruise’s Top Gun 3 Was Already Hinted in Top Gun: Maverick?
In the 2022 film, during the opening sequence, Tom Cruise disobeys orders and does a test run early to reach Mach 10. Ed Harris, who portrays the role of Rear Admiral Chester “Hammer” Cain, confronts Maverick about it, and the conversation between the two might hint at the storyline for the third part!
“These planes that you have been testing, Captain. One day, sooner than later, they won’t need pilots at all. Pilots that need to sleep. Pilots that disobey orders. The future is coming and you’re not in it.”
These lines, said by Ed Harris’ characters, talk about a future with remote fighter jets without the need of a human being. With the changing world, it seems that Top Gun 3 will likely have a storyline where Tom Cruise would have to fully retire until people realize that AI bots can only go so far and that the human touch is what was needed after all. Although these are just theories, the world is excited and ready for the third part.
