Tom Cruise is an exceptionally talented actor and one of the most recognized faces in Hollywood. He has made a name for himself as an incredibly versatile and skilled actor, having a reputation for doing all of his stunts on his own regardless of how dangerous they are. He has starred in one of the most influential franchises in the heist-action movie sub-genre, the Mission: Impossible franchise.

Despite the franchise’s success, however, the latest movie, Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part-1 has had a very underwhelming and disappointing update in regards to its box office performance.

Tom Cruise’s Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part-1 Created A Lot Of Expectations

Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part-1 was one of the most hyped movies in the Mission Impossible franchise, with the director Christopher McQuarrie, stating that all of the movies in this series have built up to this film, where nothing was held back. From Tom Cruise actually riding a motorcycle off a cliff with nothing but a parachute, to the production team building an entire train only to blow it up, this movie was certainly supposed to be a spectacle.

Outside of this, the movie was also supposed to show the movies Barbie and Oppenheimer some series competition and was expected to potentially ruin their box-office numbers with how much audiences would love this movie. Unfortunately, however, this was not the case, as the latest news about the movie’s performance is quite unfortunate.

Tom Cruise’s Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part-1’s Disappointing Update

Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part-1 has only managed to gross $400 million worldwide, despite having been released for almost three weeks. While this number is not a small number for a movie to make, it is considering when paired with the fact that the previous movie in this franchise grossed over $700 million, as well as the fact that Crusies previous movie, Top Gun: Maverick basically saved the cinema after the pandemic, grossing more than $1B.

While the sole reason for this cannot be pinpointed, many have speculated the reasons for this unfortunate performance. The biggest reason that can be credited to this would, however, have to be the poor choice of release date, as the movie would have to go head to head with Barbie and Oppenheimer, both of which have much more hype surrounding them than the Mission: Impossible film.
