From his role as Alfie in Peaky Blinders, starring in Inception, and Dunkirk, as well as his work alongside Leonardo DiCaprio in The Revenant, it is safe to say that versatility is one of his strongest suits.

In front the these roles, his work as Eddie Brock in the Venom series is next level. Hardy plays the role of a man who has been infected by an alien parasite and the actor does an excellent job at that. How Does Tom Hardy Nail The ‘Venom Voice’?

Tom Hardy has become the face of Eddie Brock as a character after starring in the 2018 film, Venom. What many may not know, however, is the fact that he is also the voice behind the symbiote that takes over the journalist’s body. During an interview with BBC, the actor helped his interviewer, Ali Plumb, nail his own version of the voice by guiding him through how he does it himself.

“Try be perkier right? Get a grapple in your voice.” taught Tom Hardy.

Hardy seems to have taken inspiration from many different sources to find the perfect ‘Venom voice’, naming them along through the process of helping Plumb hit the right tone. According to the actor, Venom has a grapple in his voice, while being perky at the same time.

Interestingly enough, he also took inspiration from a character from Sesame Street, asking the interviewer to sound more like Grover.

The Voice Does Not Come Easy To Tom Hardy Either

Before Tom Hardy guided Ali Plumb on how to ace his ‘Venom voice’, the two talked about how the actor’s voice in the films is extremely iconic and distinctive. To this, he revealed that there was one thing about this voice that made it a little difficult to make it as unique as he would like.

Hardy, in the past, has played many different characters that have very specific ways of talking and voices that stand out in a very distinctive way. While this works in his favor when it comes to playing one role like this, playing multiple characters with ‘unique’ voices can lead to them blending and all of them sounding the same.

“Yeah I do as well (sound like Bane). I think that’s an occupational hazard. You know, there are only a few chatracters that we ahve and we will smear between them all, as Alfie (Solomons) comes out.” said Hardy.

Hardy revealed that this came to be a problem for him as he would find that his ‘Venom voice’ was merging into the voice he used for his role in Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight Rises, where he played the role of Bane. He also found that the voice was also turning into a close replica of Alfie Solomons in Peaky Blinders.
