Tom Hiddleston and Taylor Swift began their brief relationship in 2016 when they met at the Met Gala. The duo were reportedly seen dancing at the event together. However, Swift was dating Scottish DJ Calvin Harris at the time. However, a few weeks later, it was reported that Swift and Harris had broken up after fifteen months of being together.
Two weeks after the breakup, Swift was seen getting cozy with Tom Hiddleston in Rhode Island, where the All Too Well singer owns a home. The couple were dubbed ‘HiddleSwift’ and were also seen attending a Selena Gomez concert in Nashville. Hiddleston also reportedly met Swift’s parents there and the two were seen breaking it down during the concert.

While it was speculated that Tom Hiddleston initiated it as he was uncomfortable with the publicity of the relationship, he disregarded it later in an interview with The Telegraph. He said, “What should I regret, in your mind? I would rather not talk about this if that’s alright.” While the duo have not spoken about the relationship since the breakup, many fans speculated that the song Getaway Car from the album ‘Reputation’ was about the relationship.
According to the Sun, many fans refer to the specific lyrics from the song which might indicate the relationship. The song talks about Taylor Swift committing a ‘crime’ and trusting a getaway driver to escape the ‘cops’ while she finds herself in a relationship with the driver.
Many speculate the conceit of the song refers to her breakup with Calvin Harris and eventual relationship with Tom Hiddleston. The article says,
“The song says ‘think about the place you first met me’ and how ‘the ties were black, the lies were white’ – this is in reference to where Tom and Taylor meet at the Met Gala…She also sings, ‘It’s no surprise I turned you in /Cause us traitors never win’ – this seems again to refer to her being a traitor because she left Calvin for Tom and then it didn’t work out.”
