Warning: Major Loki Season 2 Spoilers Ahead!
Season one of the Disney+ series Loki might have found its way into the audience’s hearts, but, to be completely honest, it was season two that truly stole the show. With a plotline as tremendous as–if not better than–other Marvel superhit shows, the second season’s ending saw the anti-hero make a huge sacrifice by dedicating his life to preserve the timelines, but also have the last laugh as he proves everyone else wrong and earns his own throne and glory.
But even that’s not all. As it turns out, the blockbuster season 2 of Loki even shattered two surprise records of Marvel that most fans must be unaware of: one for how it lacked reshoots, and two for becoming the first-ever series from the MCU to get a sequel season!
Loki Season 2 Broke Two Legendary Marvel Records
Loki season two not only made its way to permanently reside in the hearts of fans worldwide but it also made history by shattering two ‘legendary’ Marvel records that other films and shows could only dream of.
During a recent interview with Deadline, Ke Huy Quan, who plays the TVA’s dedicated handyman Ouroboros, shared the two incredible records of the MCU that the blockbuster series broke.
“We made history. We make history two times. One is the first series of Marvel getting a second season and the second is the first time a Marvel show didn’t have any reshoots. I’m so proud of that.”
Despite having reshoots scheduled for the show, the studios ended up calling them off, and their decision to do so was only right. Sharing how he was ‘so happy’ during the shoot and ‘didn’t want it to end’, Quan was really looking forward to it. So much so that he was disappointed when the reshoots were called off.
“In fact, I’ll tell you this. We were scheduled for reshoots this February, and I was waiting. My wife and I were looking forward to spending more time in London and with our Loki family. And all of a sudden we were told, ‘Oh, we don’t need any reshoots. It’s all good.’ I was kind of disappointed. I was actually disappointed that we didn’t get to go back because of how much fun we had.”
Usually, reshoots are only required when the original script and shots don’t appeal to audiences the way they were supposed to, thus leading to necessary changes and rewrites. However, for Tom Hiddleston‘s series, both Marvel and Disney were confident enough that the arc they had planned for the fan-favorite character would be nothing short of the perfect cut that fans could ever ask for.
Ke Huy Quan Praises Tom Hiddleston For Lack Of Reshoots For Loki Season 2
Continuing in the interview, Ke Huy Quan revealed how much he was looking forward to going back for the reshoots just for Loki because it was incredibly fun for him, unlike the other times when actors usually ‘dread’ going back and once again stepping into their character’s shoes.
“A lot of times actors dread doing reshoots because you have to go back. You have to get back into character. But for this, I was really happy. I was looking forward to it. It’s so ironic, because the more I wanted to do it, it’s like, ‘Oh, we don’t need it.’”
However, the Ouroboros portrayer even heaped praise on Tom Hiddleston for his perfectly exceptional skills as an actor, which ended up completely eliminating the requirement for reshoots.
“But this is a testament to how great the show is and to how great a Leader Tom Hiddleston is. Working with him has been incredible. It was such a masterclass on how to be a great actor, a great leader, and most importantly, a great human being. He is so kind and humble.”
All of these revelations and shattered records by the series only point to one and only one thing: Loki was, and will always remain, one of the biggest and most tremendous masterpieces to have even been produced by the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
