As per reports and speculations, there seems to be an interesting connection to Norse Mythology about to be explored by Loki Season 2. From the realms of Jotunheim, it seems that a frost giant is about to enter into the MCU to put an end to Loki and/or Thor once and for all!

After the events of Thor, Loki accidentally unleashed the Bifrost Bridge onto Jotunheim, the realm of the frost giants. Although it was never shown how many giants actually died because of it, their absence in the MCU could mean they have been forgotten or they are waiting for the opportune moment.

As per a report, it seems that the king of the Frost Giants, Ymir, has awakened from his deep slumber due to being hit by this Bifrost beam. Calling himself the first Ice Giant, Ymir has often been a hindrance to the Avengers and superheroes in their missions to save Earth. From what Tom Hiddleston’s  Loki has done and the amount of chaos that the God of Mischief has created, it seems that the inclusion of Ymir in the MCU is the right choice for the future.

Depicting Ymir as the antagonist also aligned with the fact that director Taika Waititi claimed that the MCU needed a stronger villain for the future. Stating that Hela was pretty strong, Waititi stated that they needed an antagonist stronger than her in Thor 5, and Ymir, the King of the Frost Giants, might just be the answer.

In the official movie book of Thor: Love and Thunder, director Taika Waititi talked about how he would have to find a very powerful villain if he were to somehow get the opportunity to direct Thor 5. As per Screenrant, the director said that there’s not much left for Thor to do except sit around and wait.

“What is left to do to him? It’s got to be something that feels like it’s carrying on with the evolution of the character, but still in a very fun way and still giving him things to come up against that feel like they’re building on the obstacles that he has to overcome.”

He further continued,

“I don’t think we can have a villain that’s weaker than Hela. I feel like we need to step up from there and add a villain that’s somehow more formidable.”

As of now, there has been no official confirmation of a Thor 5 ever being produced by Marvel Studios. Tom Hiddleston will be able to shine once again on the television screens when Loki Season 2 airs on 6th October 2023 on Disney+ in the U.S.
