Tom Holland already plays one of the most popular characters in the entire history of comic book publishing- Spider-Man. He is loved by the masses, and it is clear that he commands an insane fanbase who show up for his films every time.
But now is he going to play the holy man who is worshipped by millions across countries and continents? After it was announced that Martin Scorsese will helm a film on Jesus Christ, rumors swiftly spread that Holland will play the revered god himself. But is this true?
Why Is Martin Scorsese Making A Film On Jesus Christ?
Fans of Martin Scorsese, as well as regular social media scrollers, were stumped when it was announced that the acclaimed director is making a film on Jesus Christ. The rumor was initially met with a lot of confusion and disbelief. But turns out, it is true.
The director has been receiving rave reviews for his Killers of the Flower Moon at the Cannes Film Festival. He also met with Pope Frances in the Vatican recently and attended a conference named The Global Aesthetics of the Catholic Imagination. The site reported that he was moved by the Pope’s appeal to “let us see Jesus.”
During a Rome press conference at the Vatican, he announced that:
“I have responded to the Pope’s appeal to artists in the only way I know how: by imagining and writing a screenplay for a film about Jesus and I’m about to start making it.”
As such, it looks like the film could be his next project. Soon after this news made the rounds of the internet, a prominent rumor began circulating. Apparently, Tom Holland is in talks to play the titular major religious figure.

Within a few hours of Martin Scorsese announcing, possibly his next film, the account @Le Cinephiles tweeted that MCU star Tom Holland is in talks to play Jesus Christ. The account tweeted:

Most people are considering the rumor a joke because that’s what it is. Scorsese hasn’t titled his film, and even if he had, it wouldn’t be announced first by a Twitter account. Also, Tom Holland, or anyone else, isn’t in talks (as of now) to play the religious figure.
The joke is probably on the belief that the actor seems to bag a lot of major roles in Hollywood nowadays. Also, with Scorsese not being a fan of Marvel films (to say the least), it would be humorous to see him hire one of the major MCU actors. As for actual news about the veteran director’s next project, we will have to wait and watch.
