The director has been receiving rave reviews for his Killers of the Flower Moon at the Cannes Film Festival. He also met with Pope Frances in the Vatican recently and attended a conference named The Global Aesthetics of the Catholic Imagination. The site reported that he was moved by the Pope’s appeal to “let us see Jesus.”

“I have responded to the Pope’s appeal to artists in the only way I know how: by imagining and writing a screenplay for a film about Jesus and I’m about to start making it.”

As such, it looks like the film could be his next project. Soon after this news made the rounds of the internet, a prominent rumor began circulating. Apparently, Tom Holland is in talks to play the titular major religious figure.

Most people are considering the rumor a joke because that’s what it is. Scorsese hasn’t titled his film, and even if he had, it wouldn’t be announced first by a Twitter account. Also, Tom Holland, or anyone else, isn’t in talks (as of now) to play the religious figure.

The joke is probably on the belief that the actor seems to bag a lot of major roles in Hollywood nowadays. Also, with Scorsese not being a fan of Marvel films (to say the least), it would be humorous to see him hire one of the major MCU actors. As for actual news about the veteran director’s next project, we will have to wait and watch.
