Insomniac Games will be hoping to win the highest gaming recognition next month, as Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is nominated for a slew of categories at The Game Awards. More than any of the other nominations, it’s the Game of the Year award that many fans are sure the sequel will win, even if it’s by a close margin.

The sequel to the 2020 title was released last month and has been a roaring success already. Surprisingly, Tony Todd has revealed that just 10% of his recorded dialogue for Venom was included in the final version of the game by Insomniac. There could be potential spoilers from the recently released Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 in the article that follows, so readers beware.

Tony Todd Reveals a Majority of His Voice Recording for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 Was Not Used

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 showcases both lead Spider-Men from the first title, and the spin-off, joining hands to fight off enemies together. The game sees several returning characters, but it is Venom who has had fans hyped since the first teaser was released at the PlayStation Showcase event back in 2021.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 has a host of amazing villains, and Kraven the Hunter has also made a huge impression on his debut in the franchise. That said, fans believe Venom is the one who absolutely stole the show in the smash hit sequel.

Appearing at Fan Expo San Francisco 2023, Todd confirmed that only 10% of his recorded voice for the symbiote antagonist, which could only mean a lot of Venom is yet to be seen.

There’s no way to say whether or not Todd’s scrapped lines could stay that way or be seen in a future DLC or spinoff. However, using the dialogue wouldn’t be that bad an idea going by fan reactions.

With no DLC details announced yet, one can only speculate over whether additional content could see Venom returning in a major way.

Speaking to Business Insider back last month before the sequel was released, Jon Paquette, Narrative Director at Insomniac Games, teased a Venom spinoff. He explained that it would be based completely on fan reaction to the symbiote in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2.

Paquette mentioned that they will:

Listen to the fans and we’re gonna ask ourselves, Okay, what do the fans really want?

Now that the sequel has been out for a while, and going by the reviews and fan reactions, Venom has been a major hit. Paquette also admitted the team will ponder over what’s next for Venom “after we’ve all had time to sleep and take vacations”.

Paquette reminisced about having seen the black Venom suit in the Secret Wars comics at a younger age and taking inspiration from the same. In fact, the 1984 Secret Wars comics are known to introduce Spider-Man bonding with the Venom symbiote for the first time.

Fans Speculate Venom Solo Title Could Be a Smash Hit

Todd had also revealed that a lot of his scrapped dialogs were from scenes where Miles Morales donned the symbiote in the game. Peter Parker was absolutely brilliant in the title, with the symbiote before Venom was introduced, and Miles Morales could just take it up a notch with his own take.

Since Miles Morales is now said to headline the franchise going forward, there’s the possibility that those scrapped dialogs could appear if he takes on the symbiote, in the future. Tony Todd’s voice for Venom has suited the character perfectly, and fans believe Sony will not be letting go of the fan-favorite antagonist so easily.

Fans have already mentioned how the character of Venom is too popular for Sony to scrap after appearing in just one title. One of the fans commented on the Reddit post saying, “Honestly, a truly great standalone Venom game is all I’ve ever really wanted from Spiderman.”

The sequel as a whole felt quite short for fans, even more so than the Miles Morales spin-off. And with many interesting characters in the long-awaited sequel, the story should have been a lot longer to add more depth to Peter, Miles, and Venom.

Todd’s revelation suggests Insomniac Games could still make use of the scrapped content to continue Venom’s story in future spin-offs, or another installment in the franchise. Even without Miles, Venom has a lot of enemies as seen in the sequel, which has featured one of Venom’s arch-nemesis.

Insomniac Games’ next big project is to introduce another big, bad Marvel superhero in Marvel’s Wolverine. There’s a lot of hype already about which comics the Wolverine project could take inspiration from, and just the thought of game with Wolverine has fans hyped.
