The advent of the MCU may have opened the doors to an interconnected narrative of superheroes from the pages of Marvel Comics, but this was the most successful attempt, not the first one. In fact, as far as fans can remember, they were truly mesmerized by the X-Men series of films that have existed since the early 2000s before being acquired by Disney.

For almost two decades, 20th Century Fox created some of the most memorable films featuring mutants from the comics, naturally making it an icon in the eyes of fans of comic books and superheroes. But along with some amazing films, there are quite a few disappointments that fans don’t want to remember, and X-Men Origins: Wolverine is among their top picks.

While newer fans may not recognize or realize the existence of other members of the X-Men team from 20th Century Fox today, everyone knows who Wolverine is, all thanks to the efforts of the studios to create an iconic character with Hugh Jackman playing the role. Thus, every film that the fans can witness with Logan at the center is a treat to watch.
Despite all of the reverence that he commands, X-Men Origins: Wolverine is a film that people are desperately trying to forget.

Placed among the lowest-ranking films from the series, the aforementioned movie was made to reintroduce the old-time mutant in a new light with a newly-reiterated origin story. This film was focused on how the superhero realized his powers and later acquired his infamously deadly Adamantium Claws.
The only problem with this project was that the film was poorly written. Unlike the original trilogy that came before, this movie was a lackluster adventure with exhaustingly heavy reliance on action to further the plot, and less so on good character development. Along with that, this film also had a lot of cameos and situations where the focus was shifted from the main character to side characters that weren’t explored enough.
The biggest miss for the film was also attributed to the decision to make Wolverine’s claws CGI instead of practical effects, which took away from the genuine nature of the character portrayal that The Greatest Showman star had made iconic.

Apart from the aforementioned origin story of Wolverine, there are several movies in the series that failed to reach the expectations of the fans with their release.
The film that is just above X-Men Origins: Wolverine in terms of low ranking is 2020’s The New Mutants, which failed to make an impression on the audience because of a lack of high-stakes visual spectacles. And topping that list of disappointments is none other than X-Men: Dark Phoenix as it tries to jam too many original storylines into a single film, which helps them explore neither.
