Bleach’s Shingami Zanpakuto was originally disclosed as a Shikai. This is a particular trance or state in which the wielder is required to invoke their respective weapons by calling out their names and activating them with a specific incantation. Almost all of the Gotei 13 officers possess the ability to invoke their own Shikai. One of the key factors to get promoted is the finesse with which one can control it, without which the going gets pretty hard.

That being said, only a few handful could adapt to it well enough to see the light of day for more than a few minutes. Genryusai Yamamoto, undoubtedly, possesses the most incredible, and overwhelmingly powerful activation in the history of the series. 万象一切灰燼と為せ which means “All Things of This World, Turn to Ashes.” The release incantation of this shikai is the perfect match, as the old guy doesn’t even need to resort to his unbeatable techniques to best his opponents with Ryujin Jakka.
